Cadw's description
Location
Situated on the SE side of the High Street attached at pavement level to the wall of Caeharris Post Office.
History
Early C19 mile post on old turnpike road. It may have been relocated from nearby. It is said that it was originally on the opposite side of the road but the 25 inch OS map of 1900 seems to show it on the same side of the road but further up the High Street.
Exterior
Mile post, black painted cast iron, triangular in section with sloping top. Top has 'ABERGAVEN-NY 17 1/4' in raised lettering. Left side has 'RHYDY-BLEW 7 MILES' and right side 'MERTHYR 2 MILES' both in similar lettering.
Reason for designation
Included for the special historic interest of this transport item on old turnpike road.
