Cadw's description

At centre of the farmyard of Hendre

The main building of Hendre farmyard; it all appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1871; now used as a cattle shed.

An L-shaped set of agricultural buildings the main range of which is lofted and runs north-east/south-west at the side of Hendre farmyard. A single-storey range forms a wing to the south-east. The buildings are mainly in handmade brick and partly in stone. Slate roofs with tile ridge. The north gable and parts of the east face are in local limestone.

The main elevation faces south-east to the farmyard, the brickwork appearing much rebuilt at different dates. Barn to left with great door; three windows and four cartshed or similar openings to right (one arch headed, the others with timber lintels); one loft hatch to left and three loft hatches and two lozenge panels of ventilation brickwork to right at loft level. The lower range faces north to the farmyard, and also shows signs of alteration; arched and lintel-headed openings; lean-to shed in angle.

The main range and the lower range are also linked by a walled yard of which they form two sides, partly occupied by later buildings.

A well-preserved multiple use range of agricultural buildings, part of a farmstead group at Hendre.
