Location
Situated at end of tarmac drive of some 650m from W side of the Wheelwrights Arms pub in Erwood.
History
Early C18 gentry house, said to have origins in 1580s. Associated with the early Independent cause in the region. Howell Powell of Maesclettwr was minister at Beili Heulog chapel about 1700-12 . He translated religious texts by John Davies and Elisha Coles into Welsh . He emigrated to Cohensey, New Jersey in 1712 and died there in 1717. Maesclettwr is shown on the Gwenddwr Tithe map of 1840 as a holding of some 197 acres (79.73 hectares) owned by Arthur Maenamara and occupied by John Parry.
Exterior
House, rubble stone with slate roofs and stone end stacks. Two storeys and attic, 3-window range of C20 oak casement pair windows with sandstone monolith lintels and stone sills, except for small attic window in centre pedimental gable, which has timber lintel. Half glazed C20 centre door with similar head. Right end wall has lean-to with casement pair each floor in front wall. Left end has loft light and ground floor big casement pair with stone lintels while end of rear outshut has casement pair, C20 door and small light over. Rear has big rendered wall-face chimney, casement pair window to left.
