Location

Situated in the farmyard at the end of a drive NW off the minor road from Newton Cross some 2.4 km to the SE.

History

Small country house, later C19 remodelling of an house with service wing said to have been built in 1844-5 for the Rev T E Thomas (1802-74). It is not shown on the St Edrins Tithe map of 1842 although the farm is, just to the SW. Trehale or Trehal was a farm on the estate of the Scourfields of Mote. A Dr Thomas Williams emigrated to Pennsylvania from there in 1725, in 1787 Hugh Owen was the owner, in 1799 John Roberts and in the early C19 Abel John of Caerwen was owner, his daughter marrying the Rev Thomas.

Exterior

House, white painted stucco with imitation slate roofs and rendered end stacks. Raised quoins. Two-and-a-half storeys, three-window range of hornless 12-pane sashes, the upper ones breaking eaves under small later C19 gables with bargeboards and terracotta finials. Centre 6-panel door with overlight in heavy stucco 2-column later C19 porch. Right end later C19 added parallel rear range with half-hipped gable, canted bay window and 2 windows over.
Left end has original 2-storey rubble stone service range, with 2 12-pane sashes each floor and C20 door to right. Red brick heads, rendered left end stack.

Interior

Centre passage plan with stair to rear and principal rooms each side. Later C19 iron balustrade to stair and 6-panel doors.

Reason for designation

Included as an earlier C19 smaller country house with late C19 additions.
