On the S side of the house.

History

Probably built in the C17 and used as a secondary dwelling. An oven was inserted into the original lateral fireplace probably in the C19, by which time it was principally used as a bakehouse.

Exterior

Single-storey bakehouse of rubble stone and slate roof. Facing the house it has openings under wooden lintels, comprising a boarded door to the L side, next to which is a 2-light shuttered opening, another boarded door and a doorway at the R end, formerly full-height but with brickwork inserted below the eaves. External stone steps are built against the L gable end, leading to a boarded loft door under wooden lintel, probably to a small granary. The rear is dominated by its projecting stack with tall stone shaft, and has an added low, round projection where a bake oven was inserted. To the L of the stack is a window part infilled with blockwork, while R of the stack is a small-pane window. The R gable end has a metal-framed window under a wooden lintel.

Reason for designation

Listed as a rare surviving example of a small secondary dwelling of the C17, retaining early character and a fine stack, and for group value with Gellilyfdy and other associated listed items.
