Cadw's description
Location
Tan-y-braich lies alongside the driveway to Garreg-llwyd in the Garndolbenmaen settlement NNE of the village. It is parallel to and close behind Tan-y-braich farmhouse.
History
Probably built in the late C18 or early C19 as an integral part of the farm group serving the farm.
Exterior
The haybarn is built of rubble stonework gables and piers, and a slate roof. Two bays, two large ventilation and loading openings each side and a pitching door in the W gable end.
Interior
Approximately 6m long by 4m wide, of 2 bays, with a central truss formed with principal rafters lapped at the apex, and with a bolted collar, supporting 2 tiers of purlins. Secondary trusses in both bays, similar but without the collar.
Reason for designation
Included as a minature version of the traditional Caernarfonshire hay barn, as is appropriate to the small encroachment settlements on common land, and of group value with the farm house and associated farm buildings.
