Location

Approximately 2.2km NW of Llandyfaelog village, reached by private drive off a minor road W of the A484.

History

An C18 house, marked on Kitchen's Map of 1754. The house was restored in the 1970s from near dereliction, and converted to flats.

Exterior

A Georgian double-pile 3-storey 5-bay house of roughcast walls, slate roof on dentillated eaves and moulded cornice (partly missing on the L side), and end stone stacks. The symmetrical front has a central panelled door under a round-headed overlight, in a Tuscan portico with plain entablature. Windows are 2-pane sashes with margin lights in the lower storey, with similar but shorter windows in the middle storey. The upper storey has short 6-pane sash windows. In the R gable end are single windows offset L in the front pile and 2 windows in the rear pile, comprising small-pane and margin-lit 2-pane sashes. Continuous with the R gable end is a long, lower 2-storey 7-window rear wing with central stone ridge stack rebuilt in brick. Windows are C20 replacements. The rear of the main house has a central round-headed stair light to the lower landing, with late C19 margin-lit Y-tracery glazing. Above it is a 4-pane sash window, with another stair light, a 12-pane sash window, to the R of centre. Other windows are replaced.

Interior

The rear stairway has a timber-framed partition. The top floor retains some C18 fireplaces, doors and detailing. The lower levels of the main house were not accessible at the time of inspection (1999), but retain some cornices and doors.

Reason for designation

Listed for architectural interest as a substantial C18 country house, whose main block retains much Georgian character, and forming a strong group with the stable block at the rear.
