Cadw's description
Location
The well is in a small defile running up from the main Abersoch road, c200m W of the centre of Llanbedrog.
History
The well is of natural origin, the access to the waters reorganised in 1877.
Exterior
A rectangular enclosure formed by cast iron railings, the base set in concrete, with an opening on the longer W side, leading to four steps down, turning N to a further flight of 4 steps to the square lower area. At this point the upwelling of the water is contained in a low arched recess in the W wall. On the outer side, a plaque reads C DAN....GYNLLUN CREU GWAI.... Y CYNGON YN YSTOD 1877.
Reason for designation
Included as an interesting historic item of the area, and probably a holy well of great antiquity, now enclosed by robust C19 cast iron railings.
