Cadw's description
Location
On E side of minor road through Tretower immediately N of Tretower Court Barn.
History
Built probably c1480 when Sir Thomas Vaughan added the gatehouse and curtain wall to Tretower Court. The wall was part of a long range built opposite Thomas Vaughan's entrance to Tretower Court, which survives in a shortened form as Tretower Court Barn. The range perhaps comprised a dwelling for retainers and stables. At the N end of the original building a wall, embattled and incorporating a main gateway and a postern, spanned the road and linked with a boundary wall on the opposite side.
Exterior
Rubble sandstone wall approximately 12m long, 2m high and 0.8m thick. One tall narrow breather has a splayed reveal.
Reason for designation
Included for group value with Tretower Court, a medieval house of national importance.
