Cadw's description

Located axially on the approaching driveway to the main SE front of Old Gwernyfed, and placed symmetrically between the corner towers.

Ornamental garden gate piers of c1600-1650.

The square piers are of channel-rusticated limestone ashlar, with stepped necking mouldings, an arcaded frieze and moulded cornice. Stepped pyramidal cap carries a fluted square pedestal to a ball finial.

Included as an important garden feature in the Grade I assemblage of historic buildings at Old Gwernyfed, re-located in a position of group value with the house and circular towers.
