Location
Isolated location. Prominently sited on N side of Cwmdu-Llanfynydd minor road reached off the B4302 at Halfway.
History
Shown on 1839 Tithe map. Owner, Walter Price Owen.
Exterior
Farmhouse of 1774. Plaque above front door "This house was erected by John Nicholson in the year 1774" 2-storey rubble whitewashed house. Steeply pitched slate roof. Rendered gable chimney stacks, thicker to left. Rendered plinth. Offset regular 3-window facade. Upper windows are Victorian 3 over 2 pane sashes, vertical glazing bars only; timber lintels. Ground floor windows with concrete lintels and Victorian 6-pane sashes, vertical glazing bars only. Central doorway with raised cemented lugged architrave and keystone. Modern half-glazed door. Rendered left hand return elevation with ground floor 6-paned steel casement. 1930s brick rear lean to with small projecting stack.
Interior
Original oak bressumer to wide fireplace in ground floor left room with blocked bread oven. Adzed beams to ground floor.
Reason for designation
Good example of a late Georgian farmhouse and may be compared to Rhyd ar Wen 1 km NE, dated 1777. Danycapel, however is less old-fashioned in not having a projecting big chimney.
