Cadw's description
Location
Situated on southern side of road from Llanrhian to Trefin some 120m E of Llanrhian Church.
History
Dated 1827, possibly rebuilding of earlier structure. A mill at Llanrhian is mentioned in 1557; J Griffiths is recorded as miller 1875, followed by D Davies c1890 and T Jenkins 1926. Disused from c1950.
Exterior
Water-powered corn-mill of coursed rubble stone with grouted slate, half-hipped roof. Two storeys with later attached outbuilding running W from right side of W front. Centre and left of front with two ground floor camber-arched openings with stone arches, that to left with boarded double doors, that to centre part-infilled with added window. Two small 4-pane lights above and plaque IW 1827 between. Outbuilding has brick corner and brick sides to two stable doors on N front. Corrugated iron roof. N end has earth and stone ramps up to loft door. Rear wall has 6-pane upper window to right and low boarded opening to group floor left. South end has large timber and iron overshot waterwheel in rubble wheel-pit with high rubble feeder on bank behind. Loft window over wheel.
Interior
Interior has complete original machinery.
Reason for designation
A good surviving rural water-mill, believed to be one of the last in Pembrokeshire to retain its machinery.
