Cadw's description
Location
Set back at the bend in the road in front of the Public Library. Reset into a modern circular brick paved platform; originally at the top end of Victoria Square.
Exterior
Dated l860. Octagonal stone milestone with stepped and moulded cap; splayed out at base. Some faces have lightly droved masonry. Reads as follows:-
- To Merthyr 6+ miles
- To London l82 3/4 miles
- To Cardiff 22 3/4 miles
- To Brecon 23 miles
- To Neath l9+ miles
The base reads "Erected by the Aberdare Local Board of Health. Executed by H Pritchard contractor Aberdare".
