Die Gedenktafel wurde ursprünglich am Haus Schultergasse 5 angebracht. Nachdem sich dies laut Taufbuch der Pfarre St. Michael als Fehler herausstellte, wurde die Gedenktafel 1952 entfernt und am Haus Bräunerstraße 3 angebracht.
Nestroy war erst im Alter von 1 1/2 Jahren mit seiner Familie in die Schultergasse 5 übersiedelt.
