The City of Vienna's record

Hubertempel / Here stood the synagogue built in 1885/86 by Ludwig Tischler. In / the night of 9./10. November 1938 the National Socialist / rulers initiated a pogrom directed against the Jewish population. / This lasted in Vienna by no means, as the trivialising term created by the / Nazi regime, "Reichskristallnacht", expresses, only / one night, but several days. Almost all synagogues and prayer houses / were destroyed, including this architecturally notable house of God- / house. The ruins remained standing until 1970. Of the more than 200 000 / people living in Austria before 1938 who, under the National- / Socialist "Nuremberg Laws", were considered Jugend und Jüdinnen / at least 65 500 fell victim to the Shoah.

Inscription in German and Hebrew.
