Omschrijving
GROTE of MARTINIKERK met TOREN. Geheel in steen overwelfde pseudo-basiliek met enkelvoudig koor, opgetrokken 1446-1466 bij oudere toren en ter vervanging van de eenbeukige tufstenen kerk waarvan de grondslagen tijdens de restauratie (1955) zijn blootgelegd. In de laatste twee traveeën van de noordbeuk gewelfschilderingen voorstellende scenes uit het leven van Maria en het kind Jezus. In de nissen aan de zuidzijde van het middenschip en aan de zuidzijde van het koor zijn eveneens figurale voorstellingen geschilderd. Koorbanken: I. Met 4 zetels uit de Broerekerk afkomstig. II. Kleinere bank met voorstellingen uit het leven van St. Maarten. III. Bank met voorstellingen van de H. Catharina, H. Barbara, H. Christoforus, H. Joris enz. Restauraties 1883 en 1955-'57. Preekstoel rijk versierd met snijwerk uit 1660-'62. Vroedschapsbank uit 1730. Gotische kast in de sacristie. Oorspronkelijk tweeklaviers orgel met vrij Pedaal, in 1781 gemaakt door A.A. Hinsz. In 1860 uitgebreid met een Bovenwerk door L. van Dam en Zonen. Talrijke grafzerken w.o. twee door meester B.G. 1545 en 1547. In de zuiderbeuk vroeg 14e eeuws reliëf met voorstelling van Maria en St. Maarten te paard. Grafmonument van Gijsbert Jacobs (1666) in 1813 vervaardigd door J. Grabriel. Klokkenstoel met gelui van vier klokken, waarvan één van G. Zael, 1533, diam. 147 cm. En drie moderne klokken, waarvan één van A. van Bergen, Heiligerlee, 1937, diam. 169,3 cm. en één van A.H. van Bergen, Heiligerlee, 1964, diam. 129,3 cm. vanwege het behouden opschrift van de oude klokken. GROTE or MARTINIKERK with TOWER. Entirely stone-vaulted pseudo-basilica with single choir, erected 1446-1466 adjoining an older tower and replacing the single-aisle tufa stone church whose foundations were exposed during restoration (1955). In the last two bays of the north aisle vault paintings depicting scenes from the life of Maria and the child Jesus.
