Het op een sluis gebouwde WOONHUIS ligt op de hoek van de Ring en de Kerkstraat en heeft vanwege de ligging tegen de dijk, de hoofdvorm en de uitwendige materiaalbehandeling stedebouwkundige en architectuurhistorische waarde binnen het bebouwingsbeeld van de door kleinschaligheid gekenmerkte dorpskom. Het pand heeft een met tot puntgevel onder rollaag gewijzigde trapgevel, waarvan de zijdekplaten en de topdekplaat behouden zijn. Onder de geprofileerde waterlijst boven de pui bevindt zich een gevelsteen met cartoucheomlijsting en: anno 1637. Hierboven een gebeeldhouwd kopje in de waterlijst. De twee zoldervensters hebben geprofileerde en beblokte ontlastingsbogen op gebeeldhouwde kopjes. Bovenvenster met kruiskozijn; sierankers. De voorgevel is op de begane grond in stucwerk met schijnvoegenpatroon uitgevoerd; de verdieping is in baksteen opgetrokken en onderscheidt zich door een zeldzaam patina. Tussen beide bouwlagen is een geprofileerde houten puibalk aangebracht. De voordeur met panelen en middennaald dateert uit de 19e eeuw. De rechterzijgevel bestaat deels uit stucwerk met schijnvoegenpatroon, deels uit schoon metselwerk. De onregelmatig gevormde kap is met pannen gedekt. Onder het pand bleef een zeer bijzonder sluisrestant met tongewelf uit 1609 behouden. Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een eiken deurkozijn met oren via welke de in 1637 tot kelder omgebouwde uitwateringssluis bereikbaar is; links en rechts van dit deurkozijn zit een bijbehorend klein vierkant eiken raampje. De bevloering van de kelder bestaat uit witte natuursteen en dateert uit 1637. In het voorhuis is in de eerste twee vakken het oorspronkelijke houtskelet met sleutelstukken en kraalprofielen behouden gebleven; op deze plaats is de kapconstructie met blokkeels aan de zijmuren verbonden. De eiken spiltrap tussen begane grond en verdieping kan dateren uit de bouwtijd. De verdiepingsvloer bestaat uit afwisselend lichte en zware balken. In het achterste gedeelte van het pand herinneren diverse elementen aan een voormalige slagerij: een natuurstenen pekelbak in het kleine met tongewelf overkluisde keldertje alsmede twee ijzeren ogen in de plafondbalken waar vlees aan werd opgehangen. Het pand is van cultuurhistorische waarde op basis van de stedebouwkundige ligging, diverse bouwhistorische kenmerken, de ouderdom, de zeer verzorgde architectuur van de voorgevel met zeldzaam patina, de bijzondere combinatie van historische uitwateringssluis met woonhuis en de aan het monument afleesbare gebruiks- en bewoningsgeschiedenis.

Description
The DWELLING built on a sluice is located at the corner of the Ring and Kerkstraat and, because of its location against the dike, the main form and the external treatment of materials, has townscape and architectural-historical value within the building image of the village centre characterised by small scale. The property has a pointed gable with modified stepped gable under roll-course, of which the side coping stones and top coping stone have been retained. Below the moulded drip moulding above the shop front is a facade stone with cartouche framing and: anno 1637. Above this a carved head in the drip moulding. The two attic windows have moulded and blocked relieving arches on carved heads. Upper window with cross window; ornamental wall anchors. The front facade on the ground floor is executed in stucco with false joint pattern; the storey is built of brick and is distinguished by a rare patina. Between both building layers a moulded wooden shop front beam has been applied. The front door with panels and centre post dates from the 19th century. The right side facade consists partly of stucco with false joint pattern, partly of fine brickwork. The irregularly shaped roof is covered with tiles. Below the property a very special sluice remnant with barrel vault from 1609 was preserved. On the rear side is an oak door frame with ears through which the drainage sluice, converted to a cellar in 1637, is accessible; on either side of this door frame is an associated small square oak window. The floor of the cellar consists of white natural stone and dates from 1637. In the front part of the house, in the first two bays the original timber frame with key pieces and astragal mouldings has been preserved; at this location the roof truss structure is connected to the side walls with bead moulding. The oak spiral staircase between ground floor and storey may date from the construction period. The storey floor consists of alternating light and heavy beams. In the rear part of the property several elements recall a former butcher's shop: a natural stone brine tub in the small cellar covered with barrel vault as well as two iron rings in the ceiling beams where meat was hung. The property is of cultural-historical value on the basis of its townscape location, various building-historical features, age, the carefully executed architecture of the front facade with rare patina, the special combination of historic drainage sluice with dwelling and the history of use and habitation readable from the monument.
