Kasteel Huis te Hernen.
Grotendeels omgracht KASTEEL, waarvan de oudste delen zijn de zware vierkante donjon op de zuid-oosthoek, omstreeks 1850 tot op de kelderverdieping afgebroken, en de buitenmuren met open weergang welke onderdelen vermoedelijk in het begin der 14e eeuw tot stand kwamen.
Op de noord-west en noord-oosthoek uitgekraagde arkeltorentjes; op de zuid-westhoek een ronde toren.
Aansluitend bij de donjon aan de zuidzijde een grote zaal, vernieuwd 18e eeuw; woonvleugels, gebouwd in de loop der 15e eeuw en 16e eeuw aan de noord- en westzijde. Het jongst is de blijkens het jaartal in de poortomlijsting in 1555 gebouwde oostelijke vleugel. Sinds 1940 behoort het slot aan de Stichting Vrienden der Geldersche Kastelen, die van 1942-'57 een restauratie liet uitvoeren, waarbij ondermeer de binnenplaatsgevel der grote zaal aan de zuidzijde door een nieuwe in oude stijl vervangen werd.

Description
Castle Huis te Hernen.
Largely moated CASTLE, of which the oldest parts are the heavy square keep on the south-east corner, demolished down to the cellar storey circa 1850, and the outer walls with open parapet which components presumably came into being at the beginning of the 14th century.
On the north-west and north-east corner corbelled turrets; on the south-west corner a round tower.
Adjacent to the keep on the south side a great hall, renewed 18th century; residential wings, built in the course of the 15th and 16th centuries on the north and west sides. The youngest is the eastern wing, evident from the date in the gateway surround built in 1555. Since 1940 the castle has belonged to the Foundation Friends of the Gelderse Castles, which from 1942-'57 had restoration work carried out, whereby among other things the inner courtyard facade of the great hall on the south side was replaced by a new one in the old style.
