Omschrijving
Op de top van de heuvel Montferland tussen Zeddam en 's-Heerenberg werden door Holwerda overblijfselen gevonden, welke er op wijzen, dat men in de Karolingische of post-Karolingische tijd een vestingwerk met ringwal, waarop palissade, heeft aangelegd. Ook van een stenen muur aan de buitenkant van de ringwal trof men funderingen aan. Hoewel in 1527 een toren met huis op de heuvel heeft gestaan is momenteel slechts het jachtpaviljoen van Heer Oswald III van den Berg uit 1669 van belang, een gebouwtje op vrijwel vierkante plattegrond met een pilastergeleding, twee stenen met tijdverzen (1699) en een met een alliantiewapen.

Description
On the top of the Montferland hill between Zeddam and 's-Heerenberg remains were found by Holwerda, which indicate that in the Carolingian or post-Carolingian period a fortified work with rampart, on which palisade, was constructed. Also of a stone wall on the outside of the rampart foundations were found. Although in 1527 a tower with house stood on the hill, currently only the hunting pavilion of Lord Oswald III van den Berg from 1669 is of importance, a small building on virtually square ground plan with pilaster divisions, two stones with verses (1699) and one with an alliance coat of arms.
