Omschrijving
Voormalig GOUVERNEMENTSHUIS. Oorspronkelijk St. Maartensgasthuis, gesticht in de 13e eeuw, na 1525 Latijnse school, vanaf 1600 woning van de Gouverneur, in 1771 geheel vernieuwd: de St. Maartenskapel werd toen afgebroken en op de plaats daarvan kwam de voortuin te liggen. In 1818 als hospitaal in gebruik genomen. Rechthoekig bakstenen gebouw in strenge militaire trant, met rechte kroonlijst, twee vleugels langs een binnenplaats vormend en uitgebreid met verschillende latere aanbouwsels en een verlengstuk langs de Wouwsestraat in dezelfde vormen. Sluit, met het geboomte in de voortuin, op gunstige wijze het perspectief van de Zuivelstraat af.

Description
Former GOVERNMENT HOUSE. Originally St. Maarten Hospital, founded in the 13th century, after 1525 Latin school, from 1600 residence of the Governor, completely renewed in 1771: the St. Maarten Chapel was then demolished and the front garden was placed there. Taken into use as a hospital in 1818. Rectangular brick building in strict military manner, with straight cornice, two wings forming a courtyard and extended with various later additions and an extension along the Wouwsestraat in the same forms. Closes, with the trees in the front garden, in a favourable way the perspective of the Zuivelstraat.
