Omschrijving
BEELD PLUTO
Standplaats: tussen de Eusebiusbinnen- en Eusebiusbuitensingel, ten oosten van de Lauwersgracht, ter hoogte van de stadsschouwburg. BEELD van Bentheimer zandsteen, voorstellende Pluto, met de hellehond Cerberos. Het beeld is geplaatst op een zandstenen sokkel op vierkante grondslag. De sokkel bezit een eenvoudig geprofileerd basement en hierboven een zich licht verjongende schacht met aan elke zijde een paneel met spaarveld, dat aan de onder- en bovenzijde afsluit met een schouderboogje. Hierboven bevindt zich een fries met palmetten, dat de eenvoudig geprofileerde dekplaat van de sokkel draagt. Pluto is grotendeels naakt voorgesteld en staat in een contraposte, waarbij het rechter been het standbeen is en het gekromde linker het speelbeen. De linkervoet rust op de onder hem liggende hellehond. Pluto draagt rond zijn lendenen een sterk geplooid kleed, dat aan de achterzijde tot aan de grond reikt. Voorts draagt de figuur een snor met krullende baard en lang haar, dat tot op de schouder valt. Op het hoofd een kroon. In de rechter hand houdt hij een knots vast, die op de rechter schouder rust. In de linker hand houdt hij een ketting vast, die is verbonden met de halsband van de hellehond. Deze hier tweekoppig weergegeven hond ligt aan Pluto's voeten en kijkt naar hem op.

Description
STATUE OF PLUTO
Location: between the Eusebiusbinnen- and Eusebiusbuitensingel, east of the Lauwersgracht, at the level of the municipal theatre. STATUE of Bentheimer sandstone, depicting Pluto with the hellhound Cerberus. The statue is placed on a sandstone plinth on a square base. The plinth has a simply moulded basement and above it a shaft that tapers slightly with on each side a panel with sparing field, which closes at the bottom and top with a shoulder arch. Above this is a frieze with palmettes, which carries the simply moulded coping of the plinth. Pluto is represented largely naked and stands in a contrapposto, with the right leg as the standing leg and the bent left leg as the free leg. The left foot rests on the hellhound beneath him. Pluto wears a heavily pleated garment around his loins, which extends to the ground at the rear. Furthermore the figure wears a moustache with curling beard and long hair that falls to the shoulder. On his head a crown. In his right hand he holds a club, which rests on his right shoulder. In his left hand he holds a chain, which is connected to the collar of the hellhound. This hound, here depicted with two heads, lies at Pluto's feet and looks up at him.
