Omschrijving
Woonhuis, gebouwd in de zestiende eeuw. De houtconstructie is gedateerd op circa 1545 (d). Het pand heeft een voor 's-Hertogenbosch gebruikelijk indeling in een voor- en achterhuis, gescheiden door en brandmuur. Rechts in het achterhuis loopt een gang naar een tweede vast achterhuis, dat ouder is dan het hoofdhuis. Het gehele hoofdhuis is onderkelderd. De voorgevel dateert vermoedelijk uit de periode 1820-1840, met een winkelpui uit het begin van de 20ste eeuw. In het voorhuis is een hangkamer aanwezig, aangebracht in 19e eeuw. In het interieur van het voorhuis zijn voornamelijk 19e-eeuwse afwerklagen zichtbaar, waaronder de beschilderde stucplafonds. In het achterhuis is op de bel-etage in de 17e eeuw een binnenwand aangebracht, waardoor de ruimte kleiner is geworden en er een gang is ontstaan. In deze beide ruimten zijn op muurvlakken laatgotische schilderingen aangetroffen. Op de rechter zijwand, die nu een wand van de gang vormt, is een laatgotische schildering aangetroffen, die later (gedeeltelijk) is overschilderd met een renaissance schildering voorstellende een cartouche met tekst: "Mensche vrest godt en soeckt den vrede en doet een aender als ghij wijlt, datmen u dede. Soo wije benijt een anders profijt selden eest dat hij bedijt". In het voorhuis bevinden zich restanten van een (geometrische) schildering. Op de verdieping is op de linker zijmuur van het achterhuis een restant van een cartouche aangetroffen en bevindt zich nog een originele balksleutel.
Waardering
Het winkel-woonhuis Hinthamerstraat 138 is van algemeen cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom, in het pand bevinden zich onderdelen daterend uit de 16e eeuw: de kelders, zijmuren, balklagen en de kap;
- vanwege de ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis, typerend voor de Bossche woonhuisontwikkeling en nog herkenbaar aanwezig;
- vanwege de verschillende historische lagen in het interieur, in het bijzonder de laatgotische muurschilderingen, de renaissanceschildering en de 19e-eeuwse interieurafwerking met beschilderde plafonds en wanden, restanten van (beschilderde) behangsels in het tussenkamertje en hangkamertje en een plavuizenvloer in het voorhuis;
- vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van de schilderingen, die rijk, polychroom en figuratief zijn;
- vanwege de zeldzaamheid, er zijn weinig exemplaren van profane muurschilderingen in een 16e-eeuws woonhuis bekend;
- vanwege het positieve effect van het object op zijn omgeving, waarbij de historische belevingswaarde van dit deel van de stad hoog is.

Residential building, built in the sixteenth century. The timber structure is dated to circa 1545 (d). The building has a layout typical for 's-Hertogenbosch comprising a front and rear house, separated by a party wall. To the right in the rear house runs a passage to a second separate rear house, which is older than the main building. The entire main building is cellared. The front facade dates presumably from the period 1820-1840, with a shop front from the beginning of the 20th century. In the front house a hanging chamber is present, installed in the 19th century. In the interior of the front house predominantly 19th-century finishing layers are visible, including the painted stucco ceilings. In the rear house on the bel-étage a partition wall was installed in the 17th century, reducing the space and creating a passage. In both these rooms late Gothic paintings have been found on wall surfaces. On the right side wall, which now forms a wall of the passage, a late Gothic painting has been found, which was later (partially) overpainted with a Renaissance painting depicting a cartouche with text: "Mensche vrest godt en soeckt den vrede en doet een aender als ghij wijlt, datmen u dede. Soo wije benijt een anders profijt selden eest dat hij bedijt". In the front house remain fragments of a (geometric) painting.
