Omschrijving
Cluster 5. Betonnen Affuit.
NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding

Description
Cluster 5. Concrete Mounting.
NEW HOLLANDIC WATER LINE
Introduction
CONCRETE MOUNTING as added component of a defence work constructed in 1629, rebuilt in 1672-1673 and again modernised in 1848 and 1879-1880 for the defence of the Vecht and both banks of the Vecht. After the First World War the forts, in addition to a defence function, often received another designation, usually as storage for ammunition and other goods. In 1926 an anti-aircraft machine gun was placed on Fort Hinderdam as part of the anti-aircraft defence for the Stelling van Amsterdam. Other anti-aircraft positions on the east side of Amsterdam are at the secondary battery at Fort Nigtevecht and at Fort Pampus.
Description
CONCRETE MOUNTING of a standard type. The mounting for the anti-aircraft machine gun consists of a 1.50 m. high, round column of reinforced concrete tapering upwards. The mounting has a diameter at the base of approximately 0.50 m. and at the top of 0.20 m. At the top a small round open hole for the attachment of a machine gun, intended for fire against aircraft. The mounting is placed on a concrete plate, situated below ground level.
Valuation
The CONCRETE MOUNTING is of general interest because of:
* Cultural-historical value as a component of the New Hollandic Water Line as designed by C.R.T. Kraijenhoff and initially from 1815 by him, Jan Blanken and major-engineer Willem Offerhaus, and subsequently by others over approximately 125 years strengthened and improved.
* Architectural-historical values, in particular as an expression of military-strategic building, which is based on:
a. the system of inundation and access defence (20th century),
b. the race with increasingly strengthened offensive means (20th century)
c. the system of 'living' field fortification (20th century)
This is a rare example of a reinforced concrete mounting from the first half of the 20th century.
* Ensemble value and situational values as a component of the New Hollandic Water Line. Also because of the functional and physical coherence with the other components of the complex.
* The component is rare, as it is a rarely surviving example of this type of defence equipment.
* The component is well preserved, while it can be easily recognised by its location and function.
