FORT WARDEN'S DWELLING as an official residence at Fort Spion. Because most forts and other defensive works (located outside the built-up area) had no garrison of military personnel when there was no mobilisation or exercises, in many cases there was a separate dwelling or other accommodation for a manager or warden. On the rear side there is a later extension under a flat roof, which is used as a roof terrace and is accessible via a roof dormer; attached to this is a relatively recent hallway under a lean-to roof. Both end facades contain on the ground floor sash windows with glazing bars 2 (w) x 3 (h) and at upper floor level an almost square window opening. Most of the frames are still provided with shutter hinges. The facades, except that of the extension, are now white rendered.
