Omschrijving
Inleiding
- als voorbeeld van een motormaalderij uit het begin van de twintigste eeuw. De motormaalderij te Heense Molen is een vertegenwoordiger van een zeer veelvuldig voorkomend bedrijf;
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkelingen in het maalbedrijf in Nederland. De motormaalderij is een voorbeeld van de typisch Nederlandse, kleinschalige, individuele en stapsgewijze industrialisatie binnen deze bedrijfstak;
- vanwege de sobere en doelmatige vormgeving die hoort bij een monument van bedrijf en techniek;
- vanwege de vormgeving die kenmerkend is voor bijgebouwen die in die tijd en in die streek werden opgericht;
De motormaalderij heeft situationele en ensemblewaarden:
- vanwege de historische en functionele samenhang met de windmolen;
- vanwege de aanwezigheid van de motor en complete maalderij in het gebouw;
- vanwege de typologische zeldzaamheid. Bij zeer weinig molens is de motormaalderij nog aanwezig;

Description
Introduction
MOTOR MILL with MOTOR, MILLING MACHINERY and COOLING WATER PIT The building dates from 1904 and was built by order of Martinus Petrus de Wit, the father of miller Adriaan Jan de Wit. Later an extension was added to the rear wall. At the location of this extension, since 1930 a glow-head motor from the engineering works A. Dekkers from Roosendaal has been installed. The grinding mechanism in the main volume was probably made by mill builder Van den Hamer from Brouwershaven. The motor mill is located on a dike in the hamlet Heense Molen, approximately 100 m away from windmill De Vos.
Description
The building consists of a main volume and an extension across the full width of the rear wall. The main volume has a rectangular floor plan and comprises one storey. The gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the front wall is covered with cross tiles. The single-storey extension has a flat roof. The walls are built in brick and provided with tie rods. Centrally in the front wall is located the arched main entrance, consisting of a single hinged door under a lintel. Next to the entrance a foundation stone is set in the masonry (M.P. .. M. de Wit 16 April 1904). On either side is a semicircular, cast-iron, glazing-barred stable window under a roll moulding. In the right side wall is a similar window, as well as an arched entrance. The left side wall is blank. In the rear wall two windows are placed under relieving arches, the right one still provided with a steel, glazing-barred window. In the interior the milling room in the main volume is separated from the machine room in the extension. The wall (the original rear wall) is broken through in a few places to allow the motor to be connected to the mill. The roof truss structure of the main volume has also been adapted at points. The working mechanism of the mill consists of a millstone with one pair of artificial stones. The transmission from the motor takes place via a belt, which with a horizontal shaft and an angular transmission with bevel gears drove the runner. In the machine room stands the single-cylinder diesel glow-head motor. Against the rear wall is the rectangular, one metre deep cooling water pit.
Valuation
The MOTOR MILL with MOTOR, MILLING MACHINERY and COOLING WATER PIT is of general importance for its cultural-historical, architectural-historical, ensemble and rarity values.
The cultural-historical values lie in the motor mill:
- as an example of a motor mill from the early twentieth century. The motor mill at Heense Molen is a representative of a very frequently occurring enterprise;
- as a particular expression of developments in the milling business in the Netherlands. The motor mill is an example of the typical Dutch, small-scale, individual and gradual industrialisation within this sector;
- as a particular expression of developments in diesel engine production in the Netherlands. The Dekkers motor is a good example of the diesel engines designed and produced in the Netherlands from around 1900.
The motor mill is of architectural-historical value:
- for its sober and functional design which is characteristic of a monument of business and technology;
- for the design which is characteristic of outbuildings erected at that time and in that region;
The motor mill has situational and ensemble values:
- for the historical and functional connection with the windmill;
- for the presence of the motor and complete milling machinery in the building;
- for its image-defining location on the dike.
The motor mill is of value:
- for its relatively high integrity and the completeness of both the building and the operational inventory of motor and working mechanism.
The motor mill is of great rarity value:
- for its typological rarity. With very few mills is the motor mill still present;
- for the completeness of the equipment (motor and working mechanism). From an engineering and mechanical point of view it is very exceptional that this is one of the few remaining motors of this maker which is moreover still operational.
