HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG. De Beek ligt op de rand van het hoog gelegen duingebied en het lage weidegebied. Zocher verfraaide na 1831 de bestaande landschappelijke aanleg van De Beek. Volgens de kadastrale minuut lagen er al een bescheiden terrein en water 'van vermaak'. Typerend voor de aanleg van Zocher is de lange, wat smalle vijver die het kwelwater vanaf het duingebied in oostelijke richting afvoerde. Op een plattegrond die Springer maakte van de situatie vóór de door hem doorgevoerde veranderingen is de indeling van het park te zien. De lange, smalle gebogen vijver in het noordelijk deel. Ten oosten van het huis ligt een gebogen vijver met slanke uiteinden: water tot vermaak, aan de oostkant deels afgeschermd door een reep bos met opgaande bomen. Over de noordelijke helft van de vijver was een weids uitzicht vanuit het huis in oostelijke richting over wei- en bouwlanden richting Haarlem, richting St. Bavo. In de verkaveling lagen twee ronde vijvers. Ten westen van het huis lag de 'aanleg tot vermaak', ten zuidwesten boomgaarden, een tuin met 'broeijerij' een tuinmanswoning en stalgebouwen. Aan de Bloemendaalseweg lag de oprit die met een ruime boog richting huis liep, langs een bos aan de ene kant en een parkweide met een aantal solitairen aan de andere kant. In 1884 maakte Springer voor J. Borski een ontwerp voor de herziening van de aanleg. Borski stierf in 1891, waarna de plannen werden uitgevoerd. Een plan tot voltooiing van de aanleg maakte Springer in 1893 toen een nieuw huis werd gebouwd. Hij keerde als het ware de plaats om. Het uitzicht van het nieuwe huis was nu in westelijke richting, richting duinen. Dit alles betekende dat Springer een aanzienlijke verandering aanbracht in de aanleg van Zocher. Ook later bleef Springer toezicht houden op de gang van zaken, zodat hij zijn ideeën volledig kon uitvoeren. Het zicht naar het oosten over de weilanden richting Haarlem heeft Springer deels dichtgeplant. Vanuit de oude oostelijke vijver leidde Springer een sloot tussen boomgroepen door naar de nieuwe voorkant van de buitenplaats, waar hij een grote vijver in het weiland liet graven. De door Zocher aangelegde lange sloot werd gedempt. Voorts werd de toegang tot de buitenplaats verlegd naar de Busken Huetlaan. De vroegere toegangslaan vanaf de Bloemendaalseweg is nog herkenbaar aan de oude beuken. Het park is als het ware in twee delen verdeeld. In het noordelijk deel ligt het huis, het grote gazon en de grillig gevormde voorvijver met eilandje. Dit deel wordt door een boomcoulisse en een (aan de westzijde dichtgeplante) boomweide met boomgroepen en -singels gescheiden van het vroegere nutsgedeelte. Ten westen en ten oosten van dit 'nutsdeel' liggen wandelbosjes, zoals daarvoor ook het geval was. De toegang met hek aan de Busken Huetlaan leidt naar een ovaal perk met lobben ten noorden van het huis. Een tweede kortere oprit loopt via de Kleverlaan langs de voormalige dienstwoning naar het ovaal. In de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw is hiernaast een nieuwe toerit gemaakt. Door het hoge ligging van het huis en de situering van de vertrekken is er een fraai uitzicht over het gazon naar de voorvijver en vanuit de hal over een gazon in zuidelijke richting naar het water. In het park zijn verschillende wandelingen met 'uitzicht'. Aan de noordzijde loopt een gebogen pad langs het gazon, dat deels langs de rand is beplant met heesters als taxus en hulst. Zij zorgen voor een wisselend uitzicht terug naar het huis en over de voorvijver. Rond de vijver loopt een gebogen pad dat op twee plaatsen met een bruggetje de beek over gaat die voor- en achtervijver met elkaar verbindt. Aan de westkant volgt het pad de Bloemendaalseweg. Ook hier weer een heesterbeplanting tussen pad en weg en laanbeplanting met eik, alsmede enkele solitairen aan vijverzijde. Het pad klimt en daalt en geeft zo het idee van een heuvelachtig landschap. Bij de uitloper van de vijver takt een pad af in oostelijke richting en draait door de boomcoulisse die de vijverpartij aan de zuidkant afsluit naar het eerder genoemde bruggetje. Vanaf de voormalige ingang met hek aan de Bloemendaalseweg is de laanbeplanting van de oude oprijlaan herkenbaar. De restanten van de laan vormen de zuidelijke afsluiting van de boomweide. Ten zuiden hiervan ligt het voormalige nutsgedeelte waar nu een tennisbaan, koetshuis, schuur en tuinmanswoning zijn ondergebracht. De wandelbosjes ten westen en oosten van het 'nutsgedeelte' zijn met wandelingen doorsneden. In het oostelijke bosje ligt een vrij recente moestuin. Ook het langgerekte weiland waar overheen Zocher zijn uitzicht had geprojecteerd richting Haarlem wordt binnen de bescherming van de buitenplaats getrokken.

HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT. De Beek lies on the edge of the elevated dune area and the low meadow area. After 1831 Zocher embellished the existing landscape layout of De Beek. According to the cadastral map there were already a modest area and water 'for pleasure'. Typical of Zocher's layout is the long, somewhat narrow pond which conveyed the spring water from the dune area in an easterly direction. On a plan that Springer made of the situation before the changes he implemented, the layout of the park can be seen. The long, narrow curved pond in the northern part. To the south of this lies the former utility section where a tennis court, coach house, barn and gardener's cottage are now located.
