Omschrijving
KASTEELRESTANT behorend tot het complex historische buitenplaats Bleijenbeek. Het kasteel, dat voor de verwoesting in 1945 gold als een zeldzaam en gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een riddermatig huis uit de tweede kwart van de 17de eeuw met een middeleeuwse kern, is thans een bouwval bestaande uit een kelder en delen van opgaand muurwerk uit verschillende perioden. Het kasteel werd gevormd door vier vleugels rondom een kleine binnenplaats. Deze grondvorm is nog duidelijk herkenbaar: een forse achtervleugel op het noorden met haaks daarop twee smallere zijvleugels en op het zuiden de tussen de zijvleugels gevatte voorgevel met een centrale ingangspartij. Van de noord- en oostvleugel zijn grote delen muurwerk bewaard gebleven, evenals de uit het einde van de 17de eeuw daterende arcadegalerij met kruisgewelven, die rusten op bakstenen pijlers, en delen van de traptoren die zich op de binnenplaats in het midden tegen de achtervleugel bevinden. Het muurwerk bestaat voornamelijk uit baksteen, alleen voor de fronten van de doorgangen en de vensterdorpels is natuursteen toegepast. In de noordvleugel bevindt zich de gaaf bewaarde 15de-eeuwse kelder (onder de grote zaal) voorzien van op gordelbogen rustende tongewelven, tegelvloeren en wijnrekken. Het opgaand muurwerk van de zaal heeft een muurdikte van 1,8 meter aan de noord- en westzijde en een zuidgevel van 1 meter dikte. In de zuidwesthoek van de zaal ligt een waterput. De noordoosthoek bevat de resten van een vermoedelijk laat 14de-eeuwse woontoren; in de zuidwand ervan een kaarsnis. In de voorgevel is de 17de-eeuwse hoofdingang nog aanwezig, gevormd door een opening gevat in een hardstenen omlijsting van blokwerk en bekroond door een fronton met in het timpaan het wapen van het geslacht Schenck van Nydeggen.
Waardering
Kasteelrestant (Bleijenbeek) van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;

CAStle REMAINS belonging to the complex historic country estate Bleijenbeek. The castle, which before its destruction in 1945 was regarded as a rare and well-preserved example of a knightly house from the second quarter of the 17th century with a medieval core, is now a ruin consisting of a cellar and parts of structural masonry from various periods. The castle was formed by four wings around a small courtyard. This ground plan is still clearly recognisable: a substantial rear wing to the north with two narrower side wings at right angles to it and on the south the front facade positioned between the side wings with a central entrance section. Large parts of masonry from the north and east wings have been preserved, as well as the arcade gallery dating from the end of the 17th century with barrel vaults resting on brick piers, and parts of the spiral stairs located on the courtyard in the middle against the rear wing. The masonry consists mainly of brick, only for the fronts of the passages and the window sills is natural stone used. In the north wing is the well-preserved 15th-century cellar (beneath the great hall) fitted with barrel vaults resting on tie arches, tile floors and wine racks. The structural masonry of the hall has a wall thickness of 1.8 metres on the north and west sides and a south facade of 1 metre thickness. In the southwest corner of the hall is a well. The northeast corner contains the remains of what is presumed to be a late 14th-century residential tower; in its south wall a candle niche. In the front facade the 17th-century main entrance is still present, formed by an opening set in a sandstone surround of ashlar and crowned by a pediment with in the tympanum the coat of arms of the Schenck van Nydeggen family.
Valuation
Castle remains (Bleijenbeek) of general importance:
- on account of its age;
- on account of its archaeological and building-historical value;
- on account of its cultural-historical significance as a remnant of an originally defensible medieval stronghold, which was later provided with garden layouts and avenue systems;
- on account of the functional-spatial relationship with the arrangement of moats, avenues and gardens.
