Description

PRINCIPAL BUILDING (Coendersborch). A house situated on a moated site, built in 1813 by order of Hyma van Teyens in place of an older predecessor. The rear house is of slightly later date. The attached barn dates from around 1850. Constructed on rectangular basis from red brick, two-aisle house (front and rear house), consisting of a low ground floor and a high first floor and covered by two hipped roofs tiled with glazed tiles (with valley gutter); on the front house two brick corner chimneys with cornerstones. The gables terminated by a continuous cornice with consoles and dentil pattern and articulated by multi-light sash windows provided with stone sills and shutters; the rear house provided with six-light windows among others. Front facade five bays wide with framed centre bay with entrance section crowned by a pediment with the date 1813. Above the entrance (panel) door a balcony on consoles; wooden balusters; balcony door between fluted pilasters; fanlight. On either side on the ground floor two nine-light and on the upper floor two fifteen-light windows. In the left side gable two (narrow) six-light windows with shutters, cellar window with shutter and round window; in the right side gable two (narrow) six-light windows with shutters; shaft anchors. In the rear house among other features a second entrance door with two-light fanlight flanked by a six-light window and single and coupled six-light windows. Attached BARN, constructed from brick on rectangular basis (partly old reused bricks) under high pitched half-hipped roof covered with red tiles with owl boards and wind vanes; in the front gable double wooden doors, above which a small round window. In the rear gable on the left a stable door with fanlight; for the rest a renewed entrance section with window. In the INTERIOR are among other features of importance simple 19th-century panelling and twelve 17th- and 18th-century heraldic boards of the Fockens family.
