Omschrijving
Omschrijving

Description
Description
OUTBUILDING on a slightly curved plan against a late Gothic tower placed diagonally. The tower and the adjacent part is inhabited. Originally a medieval structure that formed part of the buildings on the outer ward. The outbuilding located on the southwest side of the outer ward was demolished at the end of the 18th century. The northeastern outbuilding consisted of a residential section at the entrance side of the outer ward, a recessed barn section with stable and a projecting section again. In the northeast corner the medieval Dieventoren (Thieves' Tower) is incorporated. At the end of the 18th century the recessed part was brought into line with the other building sections. The building is constructed of red brick, with rusticated mason-worked corner pilasters, under a long hipped roof covered with blue tiles. The similarly red brick constructed substantial tower has a tapered spire covered with slate. The façade on the forecourt side is articulated with oval windows, round-arched windows and doors of varying sizes, some of which are double doors. The central one in a risalit above which a wooden sundial under a segment-arched pediment with hour markings from 11 to 9 (21) and a pillar with triangular side. In the residential section at the far left are two doors next to each other of which the right one was added in the 20th century. The façade on the castle side and part of the rear façade are bounded by water, part of the former moat. The eastern part of the virtually blind rear façade is articulated by buttresses. The brickwork of the Dieventoren and the adjoining section dates from the 14th century in its lower part. In the adjoining section half cross windows in a basket-arch niche. In the interior the cellars of the Dieventoren (formerly a prison) and the adjoining section are vaulted with rib-less cross vaults between transverse arches. Window with burglar bars and a stone bench in the corner of the former prison. On the ground floor both rooms have a composite beam layer. The rest of the building includes the stables. Of the horse stable the boxes with wooden partitions and wooden poles hanging from iron hooks on the ceiling have been preserved.
