Inleiding
INCOMPLETE MOLEN. De achtkante molen met de naam 'De Jonge Sophia' is in 1773 gebouwd als kleine korenmolen en in 1856 blijkens een gevelsteen ingrijpend hersteld. Vermoedelijk is de molen toen 'gerezen', d.w.z. op een hogere stenen voet geplaatst om meer capaciteit te hebben. De molen is omstreeks 1920 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis en de kap werden verwijderd. Het gaande werk werd later verwijderd. De incomplete molen kreeg een functie als onderdeel van een maalderijbedrijf en later als opslagruimte. Tot voor kort stond hij in het naburige Ottoland, vlakbij het dorp Goudriaan. De toen onbeschermde incomplete molen is eind 1999 vanwege sloopplannen in een lokale 'bliksemactie' van zijn oude standplaats weggehaald om algehele vernietiging te voorkomen. Het achtkant is eind 2001 op een nieuw gemetselde voet geplaatst op zijn nieuwe standplaats te Groot-Ammers. De incomplete molen staat nu bij het ooievaarsdorp in Groot-Ammers in een open omgeving.
Omschrijving
De incomplete molen bestaat uit de gemetselde bakstenen voet met daarop een houten achtkant. Het achtkant is tamelijk licht geconstrueerd. De van twee bintlagen voorziene molenromp is gedekt met riet.
Waardering
Het houten achtkant is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een kleine houten achtkante korenmolen uit de tweede helft van de 18e eeuw die vermoedelijk in 1856 is 'gerezen'. Dit rijzen was een verschijnsel dat met name in de 19e eeuw bij diverse poldermolens in de Alblasserwaard heeft plaatsgehad;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen in Nederland, de industriële ontwikkeling van Zuid-Holland, met name in de Alblasserwaard, en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege de relatieve zeldzaamheid als een van de weinige korenmolens die in dit gebied zijn overgebleven.

INCOMPLETE MILL. The octagonal mill named 'De Jonge Sophia' was built in 1773 as a small grain mill and substantially restored in 1856 according to a foundation stone. Presumably the mill was then 'raised', i.e. placed on a higher stone base to have more capacity. The mill was dismantled around 1920, with the sails and cap removed. The running gear was removed later. The incomplete mill was given a function as part of a milling business and later as storage space. Until recently it stood in the nearby Ottoland, close to the village of Goudriaan. The then unprotected incomplete mill was removed at the end of 1999 in a local 'lightning action' from its old location to prevent total destruction due to demolition plans. The octagon was placed at the end of 2001 on a newly brick-built base at its new location in Groot-Ammers. The incomplete mill now stands at the stork village in Groot-Ammers in an open environment.
