Inleiding
MOLENROMP. De als beltmolen uitgevoerde ronde stenen molen, gebouwd in 1859 door molenbouwer H.H.Kreeftenberg te Varsseveld in opdracht van de toenmalige eigenaar G.Kwak, was ingericht als korenmolen. De molen droeg aanvankelijk de naam 'De Haan', later gewijzigd in 'Kwaksmolen'. De molen is tussen 1945 en 1952 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis, de kap en een deel van het gaande werk werden verwijderd. De molenromp kreeg in 1952 een functie als opslagruimte en als uitkijktoren voor de Landmacht. De molenromp kreeg later een functie voor een Sociaal Cultureel Centrum en is tot op heden als zodanig in gebruik. Omstreeks 1975 is de molenromp aan de noordwestzijde uitgebreid met laagbouw ten behoeve van het Sociaal Cultureel Centrum. Deze aanbouw valt buiten de werking van de monumentenwet. De molenromp is zichtbaar in een redelijk open omgeving.
Omschrijving
De molenromp bestaat uit de ronde conisch gemetselde bakstenen romp met deels nog aanwezige belt. De molenromp is verhoogd met een cilindrisch gemetselde opstand die als balustrade diende bij de functie als uitkijktoren. De belt is voorzien van een inrit op het westen en een inrit op het oost-zuidoosten. De uit vijf bouwlagen bestaande molenromp is aan de westzijde tot de hoogte van de voormalige luizolder bepleisterd en voorzien van een plat dak dat is aangebracht op de voormalige kapzolder. In de molenromp zijn op meerdere plaatsen restanten en sporen van het gaande werk aanwezig.
Waardering
De molenromp is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een ronde stenen korenmolen;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen van Nederland en de industriële ontwikkeling van Gelderland en de plaatselijke geschiedenis.

MILL BODY. The round stone mill executed as a belt mill, built in 1859 by millwright H.H. Kreeftenberg at Varsseveld on behalf of the then owner G. Kwak, was fitted out as a grain mill. Description
The mill body consists of the round conically masonry brick body with partially still present belt. The mill body was heightened with a cylindrically masonry upstand which served as a balustrade for the function as observation tower. The belt is provided with an entry ramp on the west and an entry ramp on the east-south-east. The mill body, consisting of five storeys, is plastered on the west side to the height of the former louse loft and provided with a flat roof applied on the former roof storage loft. In the mill body there are remnants and traces of the running gear present in several places.
