Inleiding
MOLENROMP.
Waardering
De molenromp is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een ronde stenen poldermolen uit het begin van de 18e eeuw die in de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw is omgebouwd tot motorgemaal en waarvan de klassieke inrichting nog nagenoeg ongewijzigd aanwezig is;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de ontginnings- en waterstaatkundige geschiedenis van Zuid-Holland en het Westland in het bijzonder en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege situationele waarden betreffende de belendende waterlopen, waaronder de omkade voorboezem, en de historische gaafheid van de omgeving;
- vanwege de gaafheid van de molenbiotoop;
- vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid als een ronde stenen poldermolen in Delfland, een van de zeer weinige overgeblevenen van de meer dan 100 vroegere poldermolens in dit gebied;

Description
Introduction
MILL BODY. The round stone mill was built in 1717 to replace a predecessor as a polder mill for the drainage of the Oude Lierpolder. It ground with a scoop wheel as a water-lifting apparatus feeding into the Delflandsboezem via a surrounding embankment forebay. The mill was dismantled around 1929, whereby the wind sail cross, the cap, the body down to the cap storey and the machinery were removed. The mill body was then fitted with an oil engine that drove the newly installed screw in the maintained water channel of the former scoop wheel. The mill body retained its function as a pumping station until around 1980 and has been in use as a reserve pumping station to the present day.
Description
The mill body consists of the round slightly conical brickwork masonry body with three storeys which was shortened at the time down to the cap storey. It is whitewashed and provided with a flat roof at the height of the former cap storey. The mill body is arranged as an operational polder pumping station with a steel screw and an interior which has remained virtually unchanged since 1926 and is characteristic for that period. The ground-floor surface is tiled in a block pattern with dark and light tiles. On the ground floor stands an old oil engine of the Crossley brand with the associated transmission and all those components that belonged there traditionally. The originally masonry water channels are now partly constructed in concrete. Particularly notable also from the perspective of historical polder drainage technology is the still present surrounding embankment forebay.
Valuation
The mill body is of general interest:
- on account of constructional-historical values as a recognisable and representative relic of a round stone polder mill from the early 18th century which was converted to a motor pumping station in the first half of the 20th century and whose classical arrangement is still present virtually unchanged;
- on account of cultural-historical values as an essential component of the reclamation and water management history of South Holland and the Westland in particular and of the local history;
- on account of situational values concerning the adjacent water channels, including the surrounding embankment forebay, and the historical integrity of the surroundings;
- on account of the integrity of the mill biotope;
- on account of its rarity as a round stone polder mill in Delfland, one of the very few survivors of more than 100 former polder mills in this area;
- on account of the fact that this mill belonged to the earliest round stone polder mills built in Holland.
