Inleiding
MOLENROMP. De ronde stenen molen met de naam 'Bovenkerkse Molen' is omstreeks 1865 gebouwd als poldermolen voor de bemaling van de polder Giessen Oude Bovenkerk. Hij was voorzien van een inwendige molenaarswoning en een scheprad als wateropvoerwerktuig. De molen heeft op de huidige standplaats een voorganger gekend. De molen is in 1928 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis, de kap en het grootste deel van het gaande werk werden verwijderd. De molenromp werd toen voorzien van een ruwoliemotor die het gehandhaafde uitwendige scheprad aandreef. Later is deze aandrijving vervangen door een elektromotor. De molenromp behield tot 1980 zijn functie als gemaal en dienstwoning. Na de definitieve buitendienststelling werd het scheprad met toebehoren verwijderd. De molenromp functioneert thans nog steeds als woning en is in de laatste decennia uitgebreid met diverse aanbouwen. De aanbouwen van de molen vallen buiten de werking van de Monumentenwet. De molenromp ligt aan de westzijde van de Peursumse Vliet, circa 13 km ten noorden van het riviertje de Giessen en heeft een belangrijke landschappelijke functie.
Omschrijving
De molenromp bestaat uit de ronde conisch gemetselde bakstenen romp met vijf bouwlagen en een plat dak als afdekking.
Waardering
De molenromp is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een ronde stenen poldermolen uit de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw die in de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw is omgebouwd tot motorgemaal;

Introduction
MILL HULL. The round stone mill with the name 'Bovenkerkse Molen' was built around 1865 as a polder mill for the drainage of the polder Giessen Oude Bovenkerk. It was provided with an internal miller's dwelling and a scoop wheel as a water-lifting device. The mill has had a predecessor at its present location.
