Inleiding
MOLENRESTANT. De achtkante bovenkruier is in 1809 gebouwd als poldermolen voor de bemaling van de polder Nieuwkoop en Noorden en daarbij voorzien van een inwendige molenaarswoning. De bouw had plaats in verband met de droogmaking van de Nieuwkoopse en Zevenhovense plassen en de daaruit voortvloeiende waterstaatkundige veranderingen. Daarmee kwam het aantal molens van de polder op drie. De molen is omstreeks 1920 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis, de kap, de romp tot de onderste bintlaag en het gaande werk werden verwijderd. Het molenrestant kreeg een functie als woning en is tot op heden als zodanig in gebruik. Het molenrestant heeft een belangrijke functie in een vrij open en oorspronkelijk polderlandschap.
Omschrijving
Het molenrestant bestaat uit een gemetselde bakstenen voet met daarop een houten achtkant. Het uit twee bouwlagen bestaande molenrestant is ter hoogte van de onderste bintlaag ingekort, is gedekt met riet en voorzien van een houten puntdak met dakpannen. In het molenrestant zijn de oorspronkelijke woningindeling en het oorspronkelijke interieur nog grotendeels aanwezig.
Waardering
Het molenrestant is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een houten achtkante poldermolen uit het begin van de 19e eeuw;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de ontginnings- en waterstaatkundige geschiedenis van Zuid-Holland en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
