Inleiding
MOLENROMP. De als bergmolen uitgevoerde ronde stenen molen met de naam 'Zeldenrust' is in 1876 gebouwd als korenmolen. De molen heeft op dezelfde standplaats een voorganger gekend. De molen is omstreeks 1950 onttakeld, waarbij het gevlucht, de kap en het gaande werk werden verwijderd en de belt werd afgegraven. De molenromp kreeg vervolgens een functie als atelier en later als woning. De molenromp ligt in de noordelijke helft van de bebouwde kom van Thorn en is uitgebreid met diverse aanbouwen. De aanbouwen van de molenromp vallen buiten de werking van de Monumentenwet. De molenromp is matig zichtbaar in een tamelijk bebouwde omgeving.
Omschrijving
De molenromp bestaat uit de ronde conisch gemetselde bakstenen romp met vier bouwlagen en is ter hoogte van de voormalige kapzolder voorzien van een plat dak met een bitumineuze bedekking.
Waardering
De molenromp is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een ronde stenen korenmolen uit de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen van Nederland en de industriële ontwikkeling van Limburg en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;

Introduction
MILL HULL. The round stone mill named 'Zeldenrust', built as a grinding mill in 1876, was originally constructed as a corn mill. The mill had a predecessor at the same location. Around 1950 the mill was dismantled, whereby the sails, the cap and the operating machinery were removed and the surrounding land was lowered. The mill hull subsequently served as a studio and later as a residence. The mill hull is located in the northern half of the built-up area of Thorn and has been extended with various outbuildings. The outbuildings of the mill hull fall outside the scope of the Heritage Act. The mill hull is moderately visible in a fairly built-up environment.
Description
The mill hull consists of a round conically-built brick hull with four storeys and is provided with a flat roof with bituminous covering at the level of the former roof space.
