Inleiding

Introduction

Double RESIDENTIAL HOUSE located at Louis Bouwmeesterplein on the corner with Emmalaan. The building was constructed in 1929 according to a design by Rotterdam architect A. Siebers. The design was influenced by the principles of the New Building movement and forms part of the typological development of white villas. Several original details from the time of construction remain in the interior, including among others electrical outlets, draught door and door furniture. The rear facade at ground level and the kitchen of number 45 have been altered. Around the residential house is a partly renewed, two-part garden. Around these gardens is a capital consisting of mortared columns with steel tubes between them.

Description

The residential house is composed of cubic building volumes of different sizes, covered by a flat roof that can be partly used as a roof terrace. The facades are of white-painted, plastered brick. The appearance is enlivened by the drip mouldings above and below the windows and the coping plates of the parapet made of brown tiles. The building is provided with single and composite window groups with steel frames and opening windows. The front is formed by three cubic building volumes. The central volume is set slightly back in relation to the other two volumes and has an entrance portico with two doors at ground level and on the first floor a recessed balcony (loggia) in the facade. On either side of the portico thick frosted glass is mortared in the wall as a window. The left building volume (no. 43) has on the ground floor on both corners a bay, the left one with an overhanging flat roof. The rear facade is formed by five cubic building volumes. The two outer volumes have an identical structure. The middle part of the rear facade consists of three building blocks that vary in height and are placed one behind the other. The rear block has three storeys covered by a flat roof. The first floor of this block has opening doors that lead to the roof of the middle block, which serves as a balcony. In front of this the front block is placed, also with one storey under a flat roof. The side facade of number 45 has a bay with overhanging flat roof, which continues backwards as a veranda.
