Inleiding

Introduction

This building, a timber house with a partly bricked front facade, concerns a former bakery with dwelling house and shop. The oldest core of the building possibly dates from the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the building was remodelled several times. Noteworthy is the extension of the building and the placement of a large, masoned oven in 1876. In 1942 the saw-dust storage to the left side of the house burned down. The ground floor of the front facade was re-bricked in 1978.

Description

The single-storey building on a rectangular plan is constructed from a timber frame with a masoned base and timber facades all around. Against the left side gable is a timber outbuilding under a lean-to roof. The building projects strongly forward relative to the other buildings on the Dorpsstraat. The gabled end on the front consists of brickwork on the ground floor and vertical timber parts in the top. The four-bay wide front facade has three nineteenth-century six-pane sash windows and a front door with fanlight. In the top a six-pane sash window and a two-pane window are included. In the low plinth is a small basement window. The right side gable of the building is clad with featheredging. The gable is broken by five nineteenth-century six-pane sash windows and a door with fanlight. The rear gable is clad with featheredging and provided with various types of casement windows from the twentieth century. The left side gable is tarred and provided with a four-pane window. The internal structure of the building is still fairly authentic. The front house consists of two aisles. The right aisle has two interconnecting rooms. In the rear room is a black marble chimneypiece. In the left aisle are a former, undercellared shop space, a bedroom and a stair to the first floor. In the rear building is situated the former bakery with oven which presents itself as a masoned cube. On one side two iron doors are included, the upper one intended for bread and the lower one for fuel. The storage in the rear part of the dwelling consists of three small rooms. In one of them is an internal water pump. In all likelihood all partition walls on the ground floor are constructed from cross timber partition. On the first floor old cupboards under the roof slope. The house is constructed from a timber frame to which alterations have been made over time. Thus corbels have been removed and beams replaced.

The outbuilding is clad with tarred parts. Internally the old tarred parts of the original side gable of the dwelling house are visible.

Valuation

The former bakery is of cultural-historical significance because of the rarity of the internal oven and water pump. Moreover, the layout of the building is valuable from an architectural-historical perspective.

The building is rare because of the structure of shop-dwelling-bakery, the internal oven and the water pump. No comparable situation is protected.
