Omschrijving onderdeel 2:
- wegens de gaafheid;
- als goed voorbeeld van een bescheiden en sobere 19de-eeuwse landschappelijke aanleg behorend bij een eenvoudig landhuis als centrum van een landgoed;
- wegens de landschappelijk visuele waarden.

Description
Description of component 2:
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT.
The oldest known map on which the Hartelaar is depicted is the Topographic Map of the Veluwe by M.J. de Man from 1805. The Hartelaar consists of three buildings: the farmhouse with reception room, the sheepfold and a hay barn and is accessed via a number of avenues on the south and north side. To the south-east of the house lies a rectangular pond. On the land register copy of the cadastral map of 1827 (cadastral municipality of Twello, section C, first sheet) a terrain for leisure is mentioned around the house, gardens and at the rectangular pond. For the remainder, the parcels were used as coppice parcels between the avenues, arable and pasture land. Between the Hartelaar and the Schokkenkamp ran two curved avenues between which coppice wood with curved paths and a high field. This situation remains unchanged to this day. Between 1825 and 1846 (TMK) it appears that to the south of the house on either side of the long drive a landscape layout developed with a curved path system. The topographic map of 1886 shows a number of changes to the terrain: in 1885 the railway line Apeldoorn-Deventer had been laid on the north side of the house, which cuts through the property. To the south of the house and at the pond lies a large lawn, enclosed towards the south by a flowing tree screen and a pasture field. The long southern avenue thereby disappeared by half. Access to the house from the south has thus ceased to exist. There are still two accesses to the house over the railway: a north-eastern one from Twello along the Schokkenkamp and a north-western one from the Apeldoorn-Deventer road. The last major change is visible on the topographic map of 1929: the tree screen from the south side has disappeared. On the tree meadow to the south of the house solitary trees have been planted. The current situation is as follows: to the south of the house the park consists of a tree meadow with fine old solitary specimens (plane tree, tulip tree, beech and oak). In the south-eastern corner lies an oval pond (the pond which on the cadastral map was still shown as rectangular). Between the house and the farmhouse Schokkenkamp lies a small parcel of old deciduous forest, intersected with some walking paths and a higher field. To the south of the tree meadow lie a large pasture field and parcels of arable land and (traditionally) coppice wood, bordered with hawthorn hedges. Important in the layout are the three avenues, which radiate from the courtyard to the north-east of the house towards the south, east and north-west. The latter is the drive (the only part of the complex that lies north of the railway line), which with a very gentle curve runs from the State Road (Apeldoorn-Deventer) in a south-easterly direction to the courtyard at the house. The avenue has a gravel/rubble surface and is planted with old oaks, in some places double in triangular arrangement and widening to a wooded strip. The avenue that runs eastwards along the Schokkenkamp to the house is the old connection road with the village of Twello. The avenue has a rubble surface and planting with red oak and old beeches (eastern part). The gravel-surfaced avenue, which runs from the courtyard with a gentle westerly curve towards the south, was replanted around 1980 with several rows of oak in triangular arrangement. The adjacent parcels have been included in the complex because of their value as landscape buffers. On the courtyard to the north of the sheepfold stand four old beeches.
Valuation The HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT, belonging to the historic country estate Het Hartelaar, is of general cultural-historical importance
- because of its integrity;
- as a good example of a modest and sober 19th-century landscape layout belonging to a simple country house as the centre of a landed estate;
- because of its landscape visual values.
