Inleiding

In de lange achtergevel o.a. zesruits stalramen. Hooizolder op o.a. gekantrecht eikenhout.

Introduction

LONG-GABLED FARMHOUSE from 1831, erected in traditional craftsman-like building tradition. The building is located in the village of Wijbosch, diagonally opposite the place where a chapel has stood since 1428 and from which it takes its name. Four mature lime trees stand on the street.

Description

The single-storey long-gabled farmhouse of the transverse-section type on rectangular plan is erected above a plastered plinth from orange-brown hand-formed brick in English bond. The gabled roof with half-hipped end and roof flashing is covered with mottled pantiles. At the junction of residential and business section a brick chimney on the ridge. The long front facade has to the left of the new entrance door with divided fanlight in an old frame a window and to the right two windows with 25-pane sash windows and double clamped shutters. The window to the right next to the door is a secondary insertion. Brick drip mouldings. Windows and door, which are of equal height, have brick bands above and fillet courses below. Between the two windows a lead insurance plate with an image of St. George with the dragon and the letters O.B.W.M. (Mutual Fire Damage Guarantee Company?). The asymmetrically arranged short gable on the left is without plinth. To the right two windows with 25-pane sash windows, the left one is secondary. Far left an attic window with 12-pane sash window and double clamped shutters, below it a barred cellar window. Attic window and window far right provided with brick bands and fillet courses. At loft level two secondary windows with six-pane casement windows and double clamped shutters. At the site traces of a filled-in hayloft door. Timber frames and iron wall anchors. In broken script the name "Kapelhof", 19th century. The business section has a stable door on the street side and two filled basket-arch carriage openings for transverse-section and/or cart shed. The basket arches have brick bands and ashlar corner stones. In their place double double-doors with wrought hinges have been placed elsewhere, while the wall is provided at regular intervals with two-pane concrete stable windows. The short gable to the right below the roof flashing is completely renewed in machine-made brick and has three sliding doors. In the long rear gable among others six-pane stable windows. Internally there are in the stable four tie-beam trusses, the posts of which on the side of the rear gable have been replaced by steel posts. Hayloft on among others straight-grained oak timber.

Valuation

The long-gabled farmhouse from 1831 is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as an example of a long-gabled farmhouse from the early nineteenth century. It documents the revival in agriculture during the early years of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is therefore important for the history of agriculture. The building is important for local history on account of its commemoration of the medieval chapel at the location. The building has architectural-historical value on account of its internally and externally well-preserved main structure and traditional use of materials as well as on account of components of the interior. It is together with the lime trees character-determining for the streetscape.
