Inleiding
TOEGANGSHEK aan de westzijde van de Voorstraat, tussen de panden Voorstraat 3 en Voorstraat 5 dat toegang geeft tot het terrein van de Nederlands Hervormde Kerk te Dirksland (rijksmonument nr. 29378). Het toegangshek dateert uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw en vertoont invloeden van de Neo-Gotiek.
Het hekwerk is tussen 1995-1998 opnieuw geschilderd, waarbij het hekwerk plaatselijk op een nieuwe gemetselde rollaag is gezet.
Omschrijving
Het L-vormige, giet- en smeedijzeren toegangshek staat tussen de panden Voorstraat 3 en 5. Rechts een smal hekdeel van ongeveer 2 meter breed dat haaks op de lange zijde van het hek staat en tegen de gevel van het in de rooilijn terugliggende pand Voorstraat 5 is gemonteerd. Het hekwerk is opgebouwd uit pijlers waartussen hekdelen. De meerzijdige pijlers zijn opgebouwd als zuilen, met voet, schacht en kapiteel. De pijlers worden bekroond door een granaatappel. De hekdelen bestaan uit tot ooghoogte reikende spijlen, die aan de onderzijde, halverwege en aan de bovenzijde door telkens 2 liggers worden verbonden. De aldus ontstane vierkanten aan de bovenzijde en onderzijde zijn ingevuld met vierpas-motieven. Tussen de spijlen zijn tot kniehoogte tussenspijlen aangebracht. Het symmetrisch opgebouwde lange hekdeel heeft in het midden twee hogere pijlers waartussen twee scharnierende hekdelen die aan de bovenzijden ellipsvormig gebogen zijn. De buitenste hekpijlers zijn wat dichter bij elkaar geplaatst.
Waardering
Het toegangshek is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en ensemblewaarde als voorbeeld van een uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw daterend toegangshek, met voor deze tijd typerende Neo-Gotische detaillering. Het hek heeft ensemblewaarde vanwege de historische-functionele relatie met de Nederlands Hervormde kerk van Dirksland en als markante afscheiding tussen het openbare en particuliere. Het hek is goed herkenbaar en redelijk gaaf bewaard gebleven.

ACCESS GATE on the west side of the Voorstraat, between the buildings Voorstraat 3 and Voorstraat 5, which provides access to the grounds of the Nederlands Hervormde Kerk at Dirksland (national monument no. 29378). The access gate dates from the last quarter of the nineteenth century and shows influences of Neo-Gothic style.
The ironwork was repainted between 1995-1998, with the ironwork locally placed on a new masoned roofing course.
Description
The L-shaped, cast and wrought iron access gate stands between the buildings Voorstraat 3 and 5. On the right a narrow gate section of approximately 2 metres wide that stands at right angles to the long side of the gate and is mounted against the facade of the building Voorstraat 5, which is set back from the building line. The ironwork is constructed from pillars with gate sections between them. The multi-sided pillars are constructed as columns, with base, shaft and capital. The pillars are crowned by a pomegranate. The gate sections consist of spiles reaching to eye height, which are connected at the lower side, midway and at the upper side by 2 stringers each. The thus created squares on the upper and lower side are filled with quatrefoil motifs. Between the spiles intermediate spiles are installed to knee height. The symmetrically constructed long gate section has in the middle two higher pillars between which two hinged gate sections that are elliptically curved at the top sides. The outer gate pillars are positioned somewhat closer together.
Valuation
The access gate is of general importance because of its cultural-historical, architectural-historical and ensemble value as an example of an access gate dating from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, with Neo-Gothic detailing typical for this period. The gate has ensemble value because of the historical-functional relationship with the Nederlands Hervormde Kerk of Dirksland and as a distinctive separation between public and private space. The gate is easily recognisable and has been preserved in reasonably good condition.
