The register's description

Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDHUIS.

- wegens de architectonische vormgeving;

- wegens de monumentale en functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie met het koetshuis en de oranjerie;

Description of component 1: MAIN HOUSE.

Originally early 18th-century, possibly older, main house substantially remodelled and enlarged in 1818 to its present layout and finish. The main house forms a spatial and architectural unity with the coach house and orangery. The rectangular building is two storeys high, under a hipped roof covered with tiles with corner chimneys and equipped with a cellar. The plastered front façade is seven bays wide and fitted with a central risalit, in which the entrance with a step platform above which a balcony carried by Ionic columns. The windows are executed with Empire sash windows and shutters. The cellar windows are semicircular. Furthermore in the window bays three roof dormers, the middle one receiving extra emphasis by means of elegant decoration.

In the rear façade the middle three bays are extended to form a domed room. Also on this side Empire sash windows, shutters and three simpler roof dormers. The side façades have a more closed character with only a few windows and a door.

The interior of the building is in use as an office and the layout and finish have been largely adapted accordingly. Nevertheless considerable original detailing is still encountered. In the hall stucco ceiling in Empire style and marble floor and wainscoting, stucco ceilings in Empire style in the domed room and the hall to the south of it, stairwell with handrail and flat oval balusters and a fanlight with leaded glass (first half of the 20th century). In the cellar the various vault forms, both barrel vaults and stone cross vaults, reveal something of the older building history of the house. Furthermore tiled floors and several purple wall tile tableaux have been found here.

Valuation

The MAIN HOUSE, belonging to the historic country estate Schaepenburgh, is of general architectural and cultural-historical importance:

- by reason of the architectural design;

- by reason of the monumental and functional-spatial relationship with the coach house and orangery;

- by reason of the finishes and interior components still present in the interior.
