Inleiding
De gemeente Nederweert is de enige gemeente waar nog schuttersputjes van de Peel-Raamstelling te vinden zijn. Het zijn kleine betonnen constructies, gebouwd winter 1939 en voorjaar 1940, van waaruit soldaten in het veld vuur konden geven. Schuttersputjes hebben in de praktijk nauwelijks een rol van betekenis vervuld. Dit was hoofdzakelijk te wijten aan de personele onderbezetting van mankracht waar de gehele Peel-Raamstelling mee te kampen had, zeker na het besluit van de regering waarbij de Peel-Raamstelling de functie van verdedigingslinie verloor en aangewezen werd als vertragingslinie. In deze situatie werd het niet opportuun geacht de schuttersputjes te bemannen, te meer daar de kans op verlies aan mankracht in een gevechtssituatie groter is dan een gevechtssituatie waarbij vanuit een kazemat wordt geopereerd.
Omschrijving
In het open veld langs de Wetering, circa 200 meter ten noorden van Peelsteeg, ligt SCHUTTERSPUTJE X1. Het is een kleine betonnen constructie van ongeveer twee meter in lengte en één meter in breedte, waarbij aan de achterzijde een opening is van ongeveer een halve meter naar de binnenzijde. Het bouwsel verkeert in goede staat en vertoont geen sporen van oorlogsschade. Nog geen vijftig meter ten zuiden van deze schuttersput, ligt het tweede overgebleven schuttersputje van het Limburgse deel van de Peel-Raamstelling.
Waardering
De schuttersput is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het object is architectuur- en bouwhistorisch van belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het object is ook van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van diverse verdedigingsobjecten- en structuren inzake de nationale landsverdediging.
Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel: enerzijds als onderdeel van de landsverdediging (het geheel aan stellingen aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog), en anderzijds als belangrijk (structurerend) onderdeel van het Peelgebied dat als militair landschap cultuurhistorisch van belang is. De schuttersput heeft een bijzondere historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid van het gebied. Deze verweving geeft het complex ook een grote belevingswaarde. Verder moet gewezen worden op de gaafheid van het gehele complex. Introduction
The municipality of Nederweert is the only municipality where rifle pits from the Peel-Raam Line can still be found.
