Inleiding

Introduction

SHORT-GABLE FARMHOUSE 'De Duinse Hoeve' of the hall-house type with central lengthwise section, dating mainly from 1627 and 1856. Striking farmhouse, situated in isolation on extensive grounds with tall mature trees. In the immediate vicinity oaks with a stem circumference of approximately 200 cm and five lime trees approximately 175-300 cm.

Description

The farmhouse was originally built from IJsselsteen under a half-hipped roof of thatch with a broad base of mainly dampened Dutch tiles. At the level of the party wall between the residential and business sections, a bricked chimney stands on the ridge with frost tiles. The front facade, which faces away from the public road, is bricked from IJsselsteen above a tall plastered plinth with brick teeth at the openings. Under the sloping roof planes, of which the left one is slightly lifted, are wattlings. Windows and door are covered with roll mouldings. The facade is thinly colour-washed. The front door with divided fanlight, which like all frames, windows and shutters was more or less renewed to the old pattern around 1985, is situated left of the central axis. At the far left a double casement window in frame with central mullion and double shutters. Virtually central in the front facade is a window with a nine-pane sash window, at the far right a similar window, though slightly smaller, both with double shutters and originally executed as sash windows. Central at attic level a small window with casement window with cross glazing bars. The undersills of the lower windows are of concrete. Three wall anchors. Just below the half-hipped end, the collar ties project through the external walls. The long right side facade is of IJsselsteen with repairs in reused orange-red hand-formed bricks. Course lines. At irregular intervals stand five later buttresses. At the level of the residential section an old frame with casement window and shutter. At the business section a blocked door, for which the roof was briefly lifted, then a low stable door and two renewed two-part stable windows. The regularly arranged long left side facade is above a tall plastered plinth, possibly in 1856, renewed with purple-brown hand-formed bricks in cross bond. In it four lunette-shaped cast-iron stable windows with fork-shaped glazing bars and a solid stable door. At the level of the dwelling a cellar window with grilles. The entirely symmetrical rear facade dates, as evidenced by an inscription in the sandstone voussoir in the brick segmental arch with springstone above the double divided door, from 1856. The brickwork appears identical to that of the left side facade. Under the sloping roof planes are wattlings. In the middle above the divided door a large loading hatch. Wall anchors. The sides of the rear facade terminate in buttresses that are bonded in the masonry. The frames and windows are white, the doors and shutters painted standard green.

Internally, the original layout has been largely preserved. The tie beam in the living kitchen is encased, the chimney has disappeared behind a later wall. Old door frames with an old door. Entirely left beside the front door, with three stone steps down, is a cellar with barrel vault. Upstairs room with wooden staircase of four steps. The chimney above the front section is of IJsselsteen. In the roof above the front section some oak timbers. In the front stable a bed alcove. In the business section four oak tie-beam roof trusses with braces are visible. Hacked carpenters' marks. On the tie beams oak trapezoidal roof trusses with two collar beams one above the other and wind braces. Two collar ties and round timber roof trusses. A different roof truss of sawn pine wood renewed after war damage in 1946.

Valuation

The short-gable farmhouse with central lengthwise section from 1627 and 1856 is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as a particularly striking example of a continually rejuvenated farmhouse of the hall-house type. The building has architectural-historical value because of the relatively well-preserved principal structure both inside and outside and the traditional use of materials as well as because of components of the interior. The building is historically significant because of its great age. Through its location on an estate with tall mature trees, it forms a characteristic landscape element.
