Inleiding.
Ten oosten van kazemat 535 staat op de noordelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 536, daterende uit 1939-1940. De kazemat staat ten noorden van een thans op het kanaal doodlopende weg. De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal gedeeltelijk afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De kazemat kon door het middelste schietgat frontaal en flankerend vuur geven op het voorterrein en de weg. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont aan de frontzijde gevechtsschade door treffers van pantserafweergeschut, artillerie en mitrailleur.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. East of casemate 535, on the northern embankment of the Defensiekanaal, stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 536, dating from 1939-1940. The casemate stands north of a road now ending at the canal. The embankment has been partially excavated at the side of the canal.

The casemate could deliver frontal and flanking fire on the forward terrain and the road through its middle loophole. The casemate has been well preserved and shows combat damage to the front from hits by anti-tank guns, artillery and machine-gun fire.
Valuation.
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and as such is an important document of military history. It is of architectural and building-historical significance owing to the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the use of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is significant owing to the high quality of the built environment and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions. The whole has considerable experiential value and as a large-scale military complex and reminder of an important episode in national history is rare.
