Twee LANTAARNPALEN uit de 19e eeuw, gesitueerd voor het 17e-eeuwse stadhuis op de Markt in het centrum van Schiedam.
Omschrijving
De twee identieke, gietijzeren lantaarnpalen staan op hardstenen plinten met aan iedere hoek een hardstenen stootsteen.
Op de vierkante basis staat een zeer groot geproportioneerd accolade-vormig voetstuk, sober versierd met lijnen en krullen. De voet is afgedekt met een vierkante, afgeronde plaat waarop een taps toelopende zuilschacht staat. De zuilschacht heeft een palmetvormige basis en aan de bovenzijde een astragaal. Onder de bekroning zijn aan weerszijden van de zuilschacht slanke, gekrulde laddersteunen. De bekroning bestaat uit een zeskantige lantaarn, afgedekt met een zeshoekige kap voorzien van een decoratief geperforeerde rand. De kap draagt een 'kroontje' met een klein pinakel-achtig torentje.
Waardering
Decoratieve gietijzeren lantaarnpalen, als karakteristiek en hoogwaardig vormgegeven negentiende-eeuws straatmeubilair, van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische- en kunstnijverheidswaarde. Tevens van belang vanwege de beeldbepalende- en ensemblewaarde door de beeldondersteunende bijdrage aan de ruimtelijke inrichting van de Markt en aan het 17e-eeuwse stadhuis.

The two identical cast iron lamp posts stand on hard stone plinths with at each corner a hard stone corner stone.
On the square base stands a very large proportioned accolade-shaped pedestal, soberly decorated with lines and scrolls. The base is covered with a square, rounded plate on which a tapering shaft stands. The shaft has a palmate base and at the top an astragal. Below the crown are on either side of the shaft slender, curved ladder braces. The crown consists of a hexagonal lantern, covered with a hexagonal cap provided with a decorative perforated edge. The cap bears a 'crown' with a small pinnacle-like turret.
