Inleiding
DRUKKERIJ, gebouwd in 1910 naar ontwerp in Traditionalistische trant van de Amsterdamse architect J.W.H. Hartkamp; uitgebreid in vergelijkbare trant in 1927 naar ontwerp van architect P. Sanders.
Het fabrieksgebouw staat aan de Korte Haven 1-3, achter het hoofdgebouw dat gelegen is aan de Lange Haven nummer 141.
Omschrijving
De drukkerij is opgetrokken in schoon metselwerk, voorzien van siermetselwerk in gele verblendsteen, op een L-vormige plattegrond, bestaande uit drie bouwlagen met een plat dak. Ten westen van het pand staat een garage die slechts één bouwlaag telt. De voorgevel is elf vensterassen breed en is voorzien van getoogde drieledige schuifvensters met houten kozijnen en roedenverdeling ter hoogte van de eerste en tweede bouwlaag en rechthoekige schuifvensters, twee per vensteras, op de derde bouwlaag. Alle vensters zijn voorzien van strekse rollagen met natuurstenen aanzetstenen en hardstenen waterdorpels. Ter hoogte van de vensterstroken is de gevel van sierbanden in gele verblendsteen voorzien. De gevel wordt beëindigd met een bescheiden gevellijst die rondom het hele pand loopt. In de zevende vensteras van links bevindt zich de getoogde entree met een dubbele zesruits paneeldeur. De muurdammen van de meest linker vensteras zijn ter hoogte van de tweede verdieping voorzien van uitgemetselde en hoog boven de daklijst opgetrokken 'torentjes' met een natuurstenen afdekking.
De plat afgedekte garage heeft centraal en links in de gevel grote segmentboogvormige inrijpoorten en rechts in de gevel een enkele deur. De vormgeving van de gevel en deuren is conform die van de drukkerij.
De zijgevel is vier vensterassen breed en bevat op de eerste verdieping links drie rechthoekige vensters conform eerder beschreven maar met gemetselde waterdorpels. Het vierde venster, geheel rechts, heeft in plaats van het middelste raam een deur. De tweede verdieping bevat vier eenvoudige vensters met dubbele ramen onder streks metselverband en gemetselde waterdorpels.
De zijgevel is aan de boven- en onderzijde van de vensterstroken voorzien van sierbanden in gele verblendsteen.
De achtergevel bevat ter hoogte van de eerste verdieping vier vensters van drie gekoppelde meerruitsramen met drie gekoppelde meerruits bovenlichten onder een rollaag en met gemetselde waterdorpels. De vensterstrook van de tweede verdieping bestaat uit acht rechthoekige achtruits openslaande ramen paarsgewijs geordend. Ook deze zijn voorzien van een rollaag en gemetselde waterdorpels.
In het interieur is de ijzerconstructie van belang. In het oudste deel zijn dit gietijzeren kolommen die geklonken zijn aan liggers met een H-profiel. De uitbreiding is geheel opgetrokken in H-profielen.
Waardering
De drukkerij is als gaaf voorbeeld van een zorgvuldig vormgegeven vroeg twintigste-eeuws bedrijfscomplex van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde. Description
The printing works are constructed in fair-faced brickwork, provided with decorative brickwork in yellow facing brick, on an L-shaped plan, consisting of three storeys with a flat roof. To the west of the property stands a garage which comprises only one storey. The front facade is eleven window bays wide and is provided with arched three-part sash windows with wooden frames and glazing bars at the height of the first and second storey and rectangular sash windows, two per window bay, on the third storey. All windows are provided with straight brick voussoirs with natural stone springers and hardstone drip mouldings. At the height of the window strips the facade is provided with decorative bands in yellow facing brick. The facade is terminated with a modest facade moulding which runs around the entire building. In the seventh window bay from the left is the arched entrance with a double six-pane panel door. The wall piers of the leftmost window bay are provided at the height of the second storey with raised and projecting high above the roof line 'turrets' with natural stone capping.
The flat-roofed garage has centrally and on the left of the facade large segmental arch inramp doors and on the right of the facade a single door. The design of the facade and doors is in accordance with that of the printing works.
The side facade is four window bays wide and contains on the first storey on the left three rectangular windows as previously described but with brick drip mouldings. The fourth window, at the far right, has a door in place of the central frame. The second storey contains four simple windows with double frames under regular bond and brick drip mouldings.
The side facade is provided at the top and bottom of the window strips with decorative bands in yellow facing brick.
The rear facade contains at the height of the first storey four windows of three coupled multi-pane frames with three coupled multi-pane fanlights under a brick voussoir and with brick drip mouldings. The window strip of the second storey consists of eight rectangular four-pane opening windows arranged in pairs. These too are provided with a brick voussoir and brick drip mouldings.
In the interior the iron structure is of significance. In the oldest part these are cast-iron columns which are riveted to beams with an H-profile. The extension is entirely constructed in H-profiles.
Valuation
The printing works are as a well-preserved example of a carefully designed early twentieth-century industrial complex of general importance for its architectural and cultural-historical value. Also of importance for the iron structure and in relation to the main building at Lange Haven 141 for its ensemble value and townscape value in this section of the facade wall of the Korte Haven.
