Inleiding
WOONHUIS annex WINKEL van architect C.B. Posthumus Meyes uit 1886, gebouwd in opdracht van Abel Labouchère, mededirecteur van De Porceleijne Fles, in de stijl van de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance. Posthumus Meyes ontwierp in 1884-1885 het stationsgebouw van Delft. Onder de indruk van het gebouw en de stijl verleende Labouchère Posthumus Meyes de opdracht om voor een bestaand winkelpand een nieuwe gevel te ontwerpen. De Neo-Hollandse Renaissancestijl sloot goed aan op de geschiedenis van het Delfts Blauw, dat net als de stijl in de zeventiende eeuw een grote bloeiperiode doormaakte. De winkel, die speciaal bestemd was voor de verkoop van Delfts Blauw van De Porceleijne Fles, is nog steeds gespecialiseerd in de verkoop van het keramiek van deze fabriek. Omschrijving
Het deels onderkelderde pand van drie bouwlagen met trapgevel is opgetrokken vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het dak sluit aan de voorzijde op de gevel aan en heeft aan de achterzijde een schildvormige beëindiging. De symmetrische voorgevel is in baksteen in schoonmetselwerk opgetrokken en heeft een hardstenen plint. Natuurstenen dekplaten, waterlijsten, sierbanden, aanzet- en sluitstenen en 'hanekam-blokken' ondersteunen het Neo-Hollandse Renaissance karakter van de als Oud-Hollandse trapgevel uitgevoerde gevel. Het dak is gedekt met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen.
De winkelpui bestaat uit een natuurstenen omlijsting met geblokte en gebouchardeerde lisenen met fantasie-kapitelen op sokkels, die een tweedelige fantasie-kroonlijst met natuurstenen waterlijsten dragen. Het fries is verrijkt met tegeltableaus. Binnen de klassicistische omlijsting bevindt zich een houten pui op de natuurstenen plint met een forse luifel tussen deur en etalages en de reeks van gekoppelde bovenlichten erboven. Het venster is uitgevoerd met staande dubbele draairamen met vaste bovenlichten en rijk geprofileerde houten penanten ertussen. De ramen bevatten alle glas-in-lood en een versierde, halfronde bovendorpel. Op de tweede verdieping bevinden zich rechtgesloten, staande vensters elk onder een ontlastingsboog met boogvelden. Het middelste venster bevat een tweedelig gekoppeld schuifraam onder één gezamenlijke ontlastingsboog. Het wordt geflankeerd door vensters met enkelvoudige schuiframen. Boven deze laatste bevinden zich cartouches van natuursteen met het opschrift resp. "anno" en "1886". Links van de deur een getoogd gietijzeren luchtrooster. In de twee bouwlagen daarboven telkens stolpramen met vast bovenlicht. Op de tweede verdieping twee schuiframen. De gevel wordt afgesloten met een houten kroonlijst met verdiepte velden in het fries. Dakkapel met pilasters en fronton ter bekroning.
Het interieur bevat een kelderniveau, twee winkellagen en een woonlaag. De vloer van de kelder is geplaveid met gele en groene plavuizen. Op de verdieping bevindt zich een schouw met houten gesneden fries en consoles in Neo-Renaissancestijl.
Waardering

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE with SHOP by architect C.B. Posthumus Meyes from 1886, built on commission of Abel Labouchère, co-director of De Porceleijne Fles, in the style of Neo-Dutch Renaissance. Posthumus Meyes designed the Delft railway station building in 1884-1885. Impressed by the building and the style, Labouchère commissioned Posthumus Meyes to design a new facade for an existing shop premises. The Neo-Dutch Renaissance style aligned well with the history of Delft Blue, which, like the style, experienced a great flourishing period in the seventeenth century. The shop, which was specially intended for the sale of Delft Blue from De Porceleijne Fles, still specializes in the ceramics of this factory. The partly cellared building of three storeys with a stepped gable is erected from a rectangular floor plan. The roof adjoins the facade at the front and has a shield-shaped termination at the rear. The symmetrical front facade is constructed in brick in fair-faced masonry and has a sandstone plinth. Natural stone cover plates, drip mouldings, decorative bands, springers and closure stones and 'cock-comb blocks' support the Neo-Dutch Renaissance character of the facade executed as an Old-Dutch stepped gable. The roof is covered with weathered Dutch tiles.
The shop front consists of a natural stone surround with channelled and bushammered pilasters with fantasy capitals on bases, which carry a two-part fantasy cornice with natural stone drip mouldings. The frieze is enriched with tile tableaux. Within the classical surround is a wooden shop front on the natural stone plinth with a substantial hood between door and shop windows and the series of coupled fanlights above. The wooden fanlights contain leaded glass and a series of small and large carved consoles. On either side of a centrally placed, built-in wooden door with glazing are the slightly projecting wooden shop fronts with glazed panels of the display windows with narrow mullions between the panes and fantasy pilasters on the corners. On the first floor is a closed, four-part coupled window installed between mortared wall piers with brick-on-edge courses. The window is executed with vertical double casements with fixed fanlights and richly profiled wooden mullions between them. The windows contain all leaded glass and a decorated, semi-circular upper sill. On the second floor there are closed, vertical windows each under a relieving arch with arch fields. The central window contains a two-part coupled sash window under one shared relieving arch. It is flanked by windows with single sash windows. Above the latter are natural stone cartouches inscribed respectively "anno" and "1886". In the stepped gable enriched with wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors is a cross window under a banding with cock-comb blocks and a projecting pilaster at the apex.
The rear facade, two window bays wide, stands directly on the water of the Oude Langendijk. At cellar level a simple door and two closed windows with sash windows. To the left of the door a vaulted cast-iron air grille. In the two storeys above, each time dormer windows with fixed fanlight. On the second floor two sash windows. The facade is terminated with a wooden cornice with recessed fields in the frieze. Dormer window with pilasters and pediment as crowning.
