Inleiding

De symmetrische voorgevel (NO) is vijf vensterassen breed.

Introduction

RESIDENCE (income house) of the villa type, built in the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century commissioned by the Zoeteman family. The construction of the house, which involves two volumes built against each other, each with its own floor plan, storey and hipped roof, points to a phased development history. The differences in design also point to an older age of the rear house. This rear house has a sober Traditional-craft design with a few very sober classicist features. The front house by contrast is designed in a rich Neo-Classicist style.

The residence was extensively altered internally in the 1970s. In the front house all rooms have been combined into one large room, with the exception of the draught vestibule. During the renovation important interior components such as the stucco-decorated ceilings and marble fireplaces have been retained. Changes have been made to the upstairs room and the kitchen in the rear house, which has been fully modernised. The income house stands behind a deep front garden, provided with a partly new layout with large lawn and shrubs in beds, and with a tea pavilion at the dyke, which enjoys national monument protection under reg.no. 9422. The garden is separated from the dyke by a ditch. A bridge with gate-work forms the only access.

Description

The floor plan of the residence consists of two rectangles, with the rectangle of the rear house being somewhat narrower than the rectangle of the front house. Only the rear house has a basement. Both volumes are furthermore provided with one storey under a hipped roof. The roofs are covered with black glazed pantiles. On the ridge points of the front house are located painted plastered chimneys, crowned by decorative wrought iron chimney caps with weather vanes. In the middle of the front gable a dormer with cheeks with sawwork and worked-up crest has been placed in the roof.

The front facade (NE) and left side facade (SE) of the front house are plastered and painted white. On these facades and on the right side facade (NW) of the front house, which is built up in red brick, a rich decoration with classicist motifs has been applied. The facades are provided with corner pilasters with panels in which rosette motifs have been incorporated. The plastered surfaces are provided with false joints creating the impression of blocks of natural stone. The facades are provided with a darkly painted base, a drip moulding at the height of the window sills and a broad cornice with projecting wooden gutter moulding. The windows and door sections have profiled and decorated mouldings. The facades of the rear house are built in yellow brick in English bond. The facades are provided with a low plastered base. A white gutter moulding with wooden brackets forms the division with the roof section.

In the facades of the front house are lightly arched T-windows with rounded inner corners. The square-headed windows in the rear house are provided with recently installed roller shutters.

The symmetrical front facade (NE) is five window bays wide. In the centre axis marked by two pilasters is a double panelled door with a segmental arch fanlight. On the pilasters two lanterns are attached on either side of the door. In the remaining axes T-windows are placed.

The asymmetrical rear facade (SW) has four, unevenly distributed window bays. The two right bays and the left bay contain square-headed T-windows. In the second bay from the left a door section with fanlight has been installed. Directly to the right of this door is a small rectangular window at eye level.

The asymmetrical left side facade (SE) is constructed from the recessed facade section of the rear house and the projecting facade of the front house. In the facade of the rear house a square-headed T-window is incorporated. In the right half of the plastered facade of the front house are two narrow windows.

The asymmetrical right side facade (NW) has a construction that is principally mirrored in relation to the left side facade. Left and right in the facade of the front house, which is built up in red brick, are two narrow windows placed. In the recessed facade of the rear house is a door and a square-headed T-window.

The stuccoed ceilings and marble fireplace in the former front rooms of the front house have been retained.
