Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE of the annuitant-dwelling type on Dorpsstraat in Heinenoord was, as attested by the foundation stone, built in 1879 on commission of A. Leeuwenburgh P.z., to a design by architect Beljers from Puttershoek. Leeuwenburgh initially inhabited the farmstead Midden Leeuwenburgh, which stands close to the annuitant dwelling and is also a national monument.
The house is an example of Eclecticism, in which Neo-Classical elements predominate. Very little has been changed to the residential house: on the attic storey some small rooms have been built in, the kitchen unit has been replaced and the balcony on the rear facade has been renewed. The wooden crowning with moulding in the risaliting gable has also been removed.
Description
The building is situated on the southern side of the dike body Dorpsstraat, at the western end of a facade wall. To the west and south of the house is a shallow garden located on the dike talus. A path leads along this garden to the farmstead Midden Leeuwenburgh located at approximately one hundred metres. From this path, a gravel-surfaced path leads through the garden to the entrance of the coach house in the western facade.
The building has a rectangular ground plan. The building, which has one storey on the street side, is provided with an additional storey on the rear side, which comprises the cellar partly built into the dike body and the coach house. The composite roof section consists of a flattened hipped roof, curved at the rear, with a pent roof on the west side, belonging to a narrow risalit in this facade. The roof is covered with Dutch tiles. On the four ridge points stand masonry chimneys. On the front side there are two roof dormers with pediments.
The facades are constructed in red and yellow brick, mortared with flat pointing in cross bond. Red brick is only applied in the front facade and the first storey of the right side facade. The cellar layer in this facade and the entire rear facade are constructed with yellow brick. The facades stand on a hard stone plinth, the arched windows are provided with T sash windows, venetian blinds and hard stone under-lintels. Two double panel doors with arched fanlight, one in the middle of the front facade and one in the risalit in the right side facade, provide access to the building. The door in the right side facade is accessible by means of a cast-iron balcony, which spans the entire width of the facade. A sawtooth frieze executed in brick with above it a wooden moulded cornice form the termination of the front and right side facade.
The symmetrical front facade (north side) is three bays wide and is provided with a door. This door section is framed by two pilasters and a cornice on consoles.
The asymmetrical rear facade counts two storeys and a mezzanine. The two full storeys are three-axis with in the middle in both storeys a door with fanlight. The upper door provides access to a balcony. To the right of the doors, small rectangular windows have been placed at eye level. The left bay is blind in the first storey, in the second storey a window is placed. The right bay in both storeys is provided with a window, the lower of which is with flat arch. In the third storey, two windows with cross panes have been placed.
The left side facade is adjacent to the adjoining buildings.
The right side facade is five bays wide. The fourth bay from the left risalits, breaks through the cornice and ends in a masonry roof dormer with window and gable. In the risalit, the door section is placed. In the remaining bays are windows. A balcony provides access from the street to the front door. The balcony spans the entire width of the facade, is supported by curved cast-iron brackets and is finished with cast- and wrought-iron ornamental railwork. In the cellar layer, which is largely concealed from view by the dike body, a set of hinged doors in the right bay provides access to the coach house.
The layout of the interior of the annuitant dwelling is unchanged. The central corridor, which divides the house from front to back in two, is provided with a marble floor and wainscoting, an ornate stucco ceiling and a moulded round arch standing on pilasters, which provides access to the side corridor. The front rooms are decorated with marble fireplaces and ornate stucco ceilings. The cabinetwork of the built-in beds is still present. All doors are moulded and provided with original hardware and fastenings. A narrow staircase leads to the sober lower storey, in which, in addition to the space for coal storage, the coach house is accommodated.
Valuation
The residential house is of general interest on account of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as an example of a representative annuitant dwelling with integrated coach house and as an example of the Eclectic building style, in which Neo-Classical elements predominate. The house has situational value on account of its distinctive location in the centre of the village of Heinenoord, on the approach to the farmstead Midden Leeuwenburgh. The house is also of importance on account of its recognizability and the large degree of integrity.
