Inleiding
WINKELWOONHUIS in kleurige Art Nouveautrant uit 1901, gebouwd naar ontwerp van de Alkmaarse architect Klaas Bakker Dz. in opdracht van de sigarenwinkelier P. Blaauw. Het pand ligt op de hoek van Zilverstraat en de Gedempte Baansloot.
Omschrijving
Asymmetrisch opgezet hoekpand van drie bouwlagen onder een samengestelde kap met rode geglazuurde tuile du Nordpannen. De afgesnoten hoekpartij wordt bekroond door een steil ingesnoerd tentdak, gedekt met rode schubvormige leipannen. De gootlijst wordt ondersteund door geprofileerde consoles. De grotendeels gepleisterde gevels aan de Zilverstraat en de Gedempte Baansloot zijn gesausd in een lichte kleur (crème-wit). De sierbanden ter hoogte van de vensterdorpels en de ontlastingsbogen boven de vensters zijn uitgevoerd in (deels) geglazuurde baksteen in verschillende kleuren. De sierbanden zijn opgebouwd uit een laag van afwisselend blauwe en groene baksteen tussen twee lagen van bruingele baksteen. De vensterbogen zijn gemetseld in lichtgele, bruingele en blauwe geglazuurde baksteen. Geglazuurde donkergroene baksteen is overwegend toegepast in de omlijsting van de winkelpui en in de erker en loggia op de afgesnoten hoek. De plint van de winkelpui en de grote consoles onder de erker van de hoekpartij zijn van natuursteen en versierd met Art Nouveau-decoraties. De schuifvensters hebben deels getoogde en halfronde bovenlichten met kleine roedenverdeling. De gevel aan de Zilverstraat telt drie vensterassen, waarvan de middelste in een risaliet met afgeknotte puntgevel onder wolfeind en windveren. In de linker vensteras beganegronds een lage deur met kleine zijlichten en daarboven drie vensters. In de middenrisaliet op de begane grond een breed etalagevenster met getoogd bovenlicht en op de verdieping een rechthoekige houten erker op geprofileerde houten consoles. Het overstekende lessenaarsdak boven de erker wordt eveneens ondersteund door geprofileerde houten consoles. In het lessenaarsdak van de erker een balkon met houten hek en in de tweede verdieping een glasdeur met halfrond bovenlicht die daarop opent. In de geveltop onder afgewolfd zadeldak een tweeruits zoldervenster. De rechter vensteras bevat op de begane grond een groot etalagevenster van de winkelpui, daarboven een venster met getoogd bovenlicht en daarboven een venster met rondboog bovenlicht.
De gevel aan de Gedempte Baansloot is smaller dan die aan de Zilverstraat en telt twee venstertraveeën. Geheel rechts bevindt zich de deur naar de bovenwoning onder een bovenlicht en daarboven op beide verdiepingen een klein getoogd venster met bovenlicht. Links op de begane grond het etalagevenster van de winkelpui en daarboven een verdiepingsvenster met flauw getoogd bovenlicht en op de tweede verdieping een venster met rondboog bovenlicht. Hierboven is de gevel iets verhoogd voor een balkon (thans dichtgemetseld) met een balustrade, gemetseld uit verschillende kleuren baksteen. De afgesnoten hoekpartij bevat beganegronds de winkeldeur met bovenlicht onder de in groene en blauwe geglazuurde baksteen gemetselde erker en loggia op de verdiepingen. De erkervensters hebben getoogde bovenlichten, de rondbogen van de loggia zijn geaccentueerd met witte baksteen. De loggia is toegankelijk via een dubbele deur onder een halfrond bovenlicht. Onder het uitkragende tentdak op geprofileerde consoles siermetselwerk van gekleurde baksteen en geschilderde Art Nouveau-decoraties.
De ongepleisterde oostgevel bevat enkele kleine onregelmatig geplaatste vierkante vensters.
INTERIEUR. Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke plattegrondindeling bewaard gebleven met op de verdieping onder meer rijk geornamenteerde stucplafonds, een schouw, deuren e.d.
Waardering
Het winkelwoonhuis uit 1901 is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als representatief en uitwendig grotendeels gaaf voorbeeld van de Art Nouveaustijl met bijzonder kleurrijk materiaalgebruik en karakteristieke detaillering. Het pand heeft tevens situationele waarde vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging op de hoek van de Zilverstraat en de Gedempte Baansloot.

Description
Asymmetrically arranged corner building of three storeys under a composite roof truss structure with red glazed tuile du Nord tiles. The truncated corner section is crowned by a steeply inset tent roof, covered with red scale-like slate tiles. The gutter is supported by moulded corbels. The largely plastered facades on the Zilverstraat and the Gedempte Baansloot are finished in a light colour (cream-white). The decorative bands at the level of the window sills and the relieving arches above the windows are executed in (partially) glazed brick in various colours. The decorative bands are composed of a layer of alternating blue and green brick between two layers of brownish-yellow brick. The window arches are laid in light yellow, brownish-yellow and blue glazed brick. Glazed dark green brick is predominantly applied in the frame of the shop frontage and in the bay and loggia on the truncated corner. The plinth of the shop frontage and the large corbels beneath the bay of the corner section are of natural stone and decorated with Art Nouveau ornaments. The sash windows have partly arched and semi-circular fanlights with small glazing bars. The facade on the Zilverstraat comprises three window bays, the middle one of which is in a risalit with truncated pointed gable under half-hipped roof and wind braces. In the left window bay on the ground floor a low door with small side lights and above it three windows. In the centre risalit on the ground floor a wide shop window with arched fanlight and on the first floor a rectangular wooden bay on moulded wooden corbels. The projecting lean-to roof above the bay is likewise supported by moulded wooden corbels. In the lean-to roof of the bay a balcony with wooden railing and on the second floor a glass door with semi-circular fanlight that opens onto it. In the gable top beneath a cambered gabled roof a two-light attic window. The right window bay contains on the ground floor a large shop window of the shop frontage, above it a window with arched fanlight and above that a window with round-arched fanlight.
The facade on the Gedempte Baansloot is narrower than that on the Zilverstraat and comprises two window bays. Far right is the door to the upper dwelling beneath a fanlight and above it on both floors a small arched window with fanlight. On the left on the ground floor the shop window of the shop frontage and above it a floor window with gently arched fanlight and on the second floor a window with round-arched fanlight. Above this the facade is slightly heightened for a balcony (now bricked up) with a balustrade, laid in various coloured brick. The truncated corner section contains on the ground floor the shop door with fanlight beneath the bay and loggia laid in green and blue glazed brick on the floors above. The bay windows have arched fanlights, the round arches of the loggia are accentuated with white brick. The loggia is accessible via a double door beneath a semi-circular fanlight. Beneath the projecting tent roof on moulded corbels ornamental brickwork of coloured brick and painted Art Nouveau decorations.
The unplastered east facade contains several small irregularly placed square windows.
INTERIOR. Internally the original floor plan has been preserved with on the floors among others richly ornamented stucco ceilings, a fireplace, doors etc.
Valuation
The shop-house from 1901 is of general interest for its architectural and cultural-historical value as a representative and externally largely intact example of the Art Nouveau style with particularly colourful use of materials and characteristic detailing. The building also has situational value for its visually defining location on the corner of Zilverstraat and the Gedempte Baansloot.
